Happy Birthda...What a magnificent birthday present! Happy Birthday wishes to D, who I still think of as a little boy when I first met you. All our children were at home then and the Woody pony was a foal, so it must be nearly ten years ago.

I have been thinking of you and the dear little Honey cat. She will be keeping Snowy company.xxDartford Warblerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04352965211143836326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8569181568013465215.post-48675155645407702082010-04-23T02:23:47.879-07:002010-04-23T02:23:47.879-07:00Thanks my friends. It's only called the Morning Room because that was what it was called in the house details when we bought the house. Sounds very grand, but it IS a grand room. I love Daphne du Maurier's novels (esp. Frenchman's Creek) and read all the biographies about her I can find.

Sandy - I'm not very good at crying - I try and hold it in, which isn't very good for you is it? I cope by working flat out and keeping my mind and body busy . . .

Terra - looks like King Arthur's doesn't it?! How lovely to have your grandfather's magician's sword still in the family. A friend, just starting on family history, has gone through her dad's papers and found a whole "scrapbook" of clippings relating to her g.g.? grandfather who was a Naval Captain, and it tells of his exploits and all the ships he was on. Oh how I WISH I could find something like that relating to my family. Best I can manage excitement-wise are two g.g. grandfathers at Trafalgar, one on the Victory. Oh, and one of their grandsons on HMS Terrible at the Boxer Rebellions.

We thought the sword had D''s name on it (!!). I am gently urging him towards re-enactments, but there is NOTHING for him West of Hampshire in England, a couple of hundred miles away and at the moment he thinks re-enacting is a bit naff . . . Think he would actually enjoy it, with the fighting bits! Just need to find a Viking group, as that's his main interest.Bovey Bellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13117332471600275100noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8569181568013465215.post-84869113440675484002010-04-22T22:08:31.905-07:002010-04-22T22:08:31.905-07:00I love the sword and the the chunk of yew that it ...I love the sword and the the chunk of yew that it is in! What a wonderful idea! My sons would love it too. I love the morning room...so bright and cheerful. For just a minute, I thought of the movie Rebecca (remember by Daphne Du Maurier?)...in the movie they light the fire in the morning room! I love the old classic movies.

I think I got my cry out the day I had to dig the grave for my little Biscuit who died. Just go ahead and have a good cry. It's better now but I get sad when I walk down into the meadow by her little grave. Each day/week will get easier.

I hope you have a great weekend!SouthernHearthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07570700924252634215noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8569181568013465215.post-65839383224383123152010-04-22T21:14:10.223-07:002010-04-22T21:14:10.223-07:00Jennie, I'm so sorry to hear of Honey passing....Jennie, I'm so sorry to hear of Honey passing. You really should have a cry though, it's good for you and helps. xo
The sword is very handsome indeed! Happy birthday to your boy! We have a sword in our family that my grandfather used in his magician show, so it is quite old. I think it is a cavalry sword. Say, the one in your photo couldn't be King Arthur's sword, could it?Terra https://www.blogger.com/profile/04396481049075747940noreply@blogger.com
