Well, that is sewing knocked on the head for a few days. All my own silly fault. Whilst trimming the ears of the edge off a block, a swift swipe and a lack of attention embedded the rotary cutter deep into my finger and it did not want to stop bleeding. . . 20 mins of pressure and arm in the air, and I had to call a neighbour to take me to A&E in Llandod. Not a place they can stitch as it won't hold together, so taped with tiny strips and I go back on Tuesday, I may need to choose a different victim to drive me if I'm not up to it. Meanwhile under strict instructions not to do anything - bar some one fingered typing . . . Tea is fishfingers and oven chips.
As an afterthought - how the HELL am I going to get my bra on in the morning?
Oh dear, I hope it heals well. Thank goodness you had a helpful neighbour. I once discovered a box of rotary cutters in a stock cupboard of the Infants' School where I worked. Sliced my finger by simply touching the blade (to see if it was sharp!) and decided that they were not suitable for numptys like me let alone 4-7 year olds.
ReplyDeleteGood grief - what on earth did they have those in the school for? I shall use my scissors for trimming in future and be VERY careful cutting fabric,
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I am feeling queasy just thinking about it!
ReplyDeleteI hope it heals quickly x
I was when she eased my tissue dressing off and part of my finger came up with it!
ReplyDeleteOh no! This is my fear of rotary cutters, plus they never cut thru. I sit, feet up, w my scissors to trim blocks. I have cut fingertips at times, not w rotary cutters tho, but they were stitched and held but became very infected, so try to keep it dry and very clean or soak as needed. I hope it is not too painful.
ReplyDeleteI am beginning to think my scatty brain is safer with scissors too! Throbbing more than painful - strange to feel your heartbeat at the end of your index finger!
DeleteOh no! I hope it heals quickly. Be good and obey the doctor's orders!
ReplyDeleteI will, never fear. Will settle down with a book and tv tomorrow.
DeleteOh Gees. What a terrible place to get a severe cut. Every time you bump it, it will bleed. And...you will bump it a lot, because, well..
ReplyDeletefinger. (Signed) surviver of a similar can opening injury.
I am relieved Mr Finger, that you survived, despite bashing after deep laceration.
DeleteImplements to be wary of! But very useful tools. Scissors for corners when you get back to it, from now on!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you are following orders..and heal quickly xx
I am bring a very good girl. I hope it heals quickly too.
ReplyDeleteHave ice cream for dessert, you deserve it. You could order chamisole with built in bra. Amazon UK has them.Take care!
ReplyDeleteBun
It may be ice cream for breakfast! Fed up with inactivity already but planning to binge-watch Shardlake on tv. "May" be able to hand quilt that border.
DeleteOne day while not paying attention with my rotary cutter, I managed to cut the tip of my finger. I did finally get the bleeding to stop, but that was after using many a bandage and a great deal of praying. Hope your injury heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Well, this did not want to stop as gone in at an angle very deeply.
Deleteat least you got to A&E and are back home on the same day. My Godmother collapsed and was in A&E in H'west for 28 hours!!! This could be the universe's way of making you take a break?
ReplyDeleteSeen within 10 mins as it's Llandod and not Hereford. Going to watch Shardlake as it's on ITVX and very true to the books apparently, which I enjoyed greatly.
DeleteOuch! BIG Ouch! My husband cut the tip of his finger off, and it took the A&E nurse about 40 minutes to get it to stop bleeding, so I know how bad your finger would be. Yes, rotary cutters are lethal, and I reckon they wait for an opportunity to get us! You might manage your bra if you do it up around the front and slide it into position ... then again you might need to go free for a few days! Sending healing thoughts your way. XX
ReplyDeleteWell, I had a couple of nicks in the past week so clearly have been getting too careless with it. I am going bra-free today. I bet it was scary for your husband (painful too).
DeleteOuch!! I’m cringing on the other side of the world! How are you with your other hand? Sending sympathy JennyP
ReplyDeleteFortunately this was my left hand and I'm right handed. Typing is a bit one fingered right now though.
DeleteOh no! And I did the same thing but with secateurs. I think it was the year after my husband died. A neighbour, luckily a nurse, came to my rescue but I had to go to the surgery every day after work for some time to have my finger redressed. I always try to remember to wear gardening gloves now. But sometimes I don't..... Take care. Positive thoughts from here.
ReplyDeleteOooh - I bet that was painful. I am back tomorrow morning to have it checked. I am off to Malvern on Sunday, so hope I am improved by then. I always wear gardening gloves, but that's just habit.
DeleteOh my goodness, missed this post until monday morning. Hope the throbbing has settled.
ReplyDeleteAnd you are resting it so it heals well.
I've never had or needed a rotary cutter and sounds like that was the best idea!
Yes, unpleasant at the time. I'll live.
Deletego back in time and burn your bra, ha ha. when I'm cutting the dog ears off I sit with the waste bin between my feet and they fall in, don't have to clear the table of bit's. Call me lazy. I love my rotary cutter but yes you do have to be careful. I haven't seen the Shardlake series on TV but have all the books here and love them in fact love historical novels and a good who done it book. Shirley in OZ
ReplyDeleteManaged to get the bra on as usual. I will use scissors for the ears in future. Shardlake is very good.

ReplyDeletePoor you. It is a bit frightening when you lose use of your hands. Hope it will heal soon.
Well, loss of part of one hand and I can do things with it if I am careful of the poorly finger.
DeleteI think I would have solved the problem by not taking my bra off for a few days. ;-)
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough I thought of you when the nurse was taking the stitches out of Alan's hand last week. Forty plus, (she lost count after forty) tiny stitches all so neat and regular, and my only thought was Jennie sews like that on her lovely quilts. Alan's hand is nowhere near as pretty!!
Oh gosh no - I can never wait to take mine off (being well endowed and needing an underwired bra). I'd go without here on my own, but if I suddenly get visitors, I have to fold my arms to chat!!
ReplyDeletePoor Alan - hope he's healing well soon - that sounds like a big bit of damage with that many stitches. I think fabric is easier to sew neatly than skin . . .
