Keeping busy - and Update (Rosie)

It really ISN'T turquoise like this.  Imagine a deep sky blue with a hint of lavender.  Ah well, I know what colour it is and is is SUCH an improvement on that ghastly chocolate brown.  Need to mask up the letterbox and door handle before I undercoat the door. It looks so much more cheerful already.

Kitchen table before and after.  I will give it a polish after lunch, now it is cleared.  I have put all the books, bar the Jo Nesbo which I'm reading, back in the bookcase.

I've just been down to town, to put two adverts in the Co-op for Keith's nearly-new all-terrain wheelchair, his mobility scooter, and both the sets of ramps (one for the m. scooter loading into the car and the others used in the house for the wheelchair.)  I put the same adverts in the newsagents for a month too.  Let's hope there's buyers out there.  There are certainly more people in town this week for the show, so a wider audience even if the majority ARE Young Farmers!

It was absolutely heaving, with the pubs doing a roaring trade and belching beer and cider fumes out the door as you passed.  Mostly young farmers, but "travellers" too - with half a dozen ponies and the little driving sulkies they pull, tied up outside the entrance to St Mary's church and graveyard.  There was a post on the town Facebook page talking about some of these poor ponies being whipped and abused and one lad just repeatedly hitting his pony in the face - why?  A psychopath in the making . . .Of course, the RSPCA turn a blind eye because it's travellers.  These poor ponies get hammered along the roads too, especially when the pubs kick out - I hate to see it.

Well, I shall enjoy my tidier kitchen whilst I can.  The table will doubtless soon get covered in stuff again but at least I went through all the "useful notes to self" and binned most of them.

Babysitting tomorrow so had best go and fossick in the freezer for something to defrost to eat on my (late) return.

Update: Rosie poorly - sickness and diarrhea, and may have to go to A&E in morning if not enough wet nappies.  Needless to say I shan't be sleeping well tonight.  Poor little one.

  1. That table is far too lovely to hide underneath anything!

  2. It's made from American Elm I think. Keith got the timber when in Dorset, after a tree had been felled. I cleverly spotted the right 4 legs from another table at auction and got them for about £16 I think!!! You're right, it is too nice to be covered over.

  3. Even if the camera shows the blue different to what it is it's a fantastic colour and 100% better than brown.

    1. I agree. When the bottom half of the house is done it will look so much better but I'm not looking forward to masking up the 18 small windows on the French doors . . .

  6. What a beautiful blue, how wonderful it looks. As does that gorgeous table.

I hope you get takers for the mobility devices, may be so urgently needed. I remember when you were getting them, the effort, the expense.

If not can you donate and get a tax credit? We have a surgical supply store here in town that buys back and resells used equipment like this, tho I am sure they pay as little as possible tot he seller......

Poor Rosie, are you home alone w her? Will she drink whatever the UK version of Pedialyte is? It helps prevent dehydration [as I m sure you know as a very experienced mom]? More little mite, kids get sick so often don't they.

    1. It's certainly a lot more cheerful to look at. The table is in use daily - Lord knows who will get it when I go as Tam's house too small and neither of the others have a house yet.

Can't afford to give the mobility items away - we don't get tax credit for them here. If I can't sell locally in the next couple of weeks, they will go on Ebay.

Tam texted me last night and said Jon was staying home to look after her. I've suggested Dioralyte, which is the UK version of Pedialyte I think. I've been awake since 5 a.m. and waiting to hear how she is.

  7. Love the colour of the door and love the table! After clearing mine I felt so much better, kept thinking of that reference to less is more and how a clear space clears the mind. Get better wishes to Rosie.
