Overwhelmed

When I am short on sleep, I find everything hard to cope with.  My shoulder has been so painful, at night particularly, in recent weeks and I am very sleep deprived.  The physio has helped it, but I woke after 3 hrs last night (1 a.m.) and was awake for 2 hrs, dozed a bit, then was awake for more than an hour again.  Tam and Rosie have been here, which is wonderful, but means rest is at a premium.   Tam has helped me with all the little jobs that needed doing - from changing the kitchen light bulb to writing out my NZ Itinerary, the trips I'm on, the route I need to get from hotel to bus stop and vice versa, for each day.  We've google mapped the places I'm staying and I've printed off route maps for the walks between the hotel and coach pick up etc.  I've seen what the hotels look like and traced the routes so I will be familiar - a little - with the area.

We went into town late morning for a look round the charity shops and I found some brand new slip on fabric shoes, ideal for casual walking in NZ.  Then Tam took me for hot chocolate and cake, which means I have no appetite for tea yet.  This was a Ruby hot chocolate with berries in (I guess more of a hot milk shake!) and a White Choc Rocky Road that I nearly broke the fork on as it had been in the chiller.  (Excuse highlighting - I have pressed a wrong key and can't undo it . . .)

Rosie has been "drawing" and is clearly right handed.  I noticed yesterday that she has discovered on her own, a better way of holding the pen - just like she was being taught at school in a few year's time! This is an improvement on holding the top of the pen - she's found she has more control her new way. Excuse her breakfast bowl in shot . . .

I have a local day out to look forward to next week, as there is the 2nd Antiques in Tents being held next weekend. It will cheer me up just in time to shed my upper clothing and bare my all the next day!

Hopefully I shall be comfortable enough to write up the post on St Nicholas Church in Grosmont.

  1. Thank goodness you have Tam and Rosie close by for helping. Your plans for NZ seem well in hand too.

Don't you just love googles new feature of links!! Unclick the pen thing top right of compose on new post page might do it.

    1. Thanks Sue - I did stupidly click it and thought what the hell???

I couldn't manage without my family. Tam is really good at organisation - I used to be but these days my confidence has left me and panic mode set in. Gabby has been great too, though she is always so busy at work and can't get away to visit so often.

    1. Can't see me getting up there these days, a shame as it's such a wonderful view.

  3. Sounds like you have really done your research on your trip. I so hope you get some good sleep very soon.

    God bless.

    1. Well - Tam has really. I just did what she told me to yesterday, with Google maps. I slept until 4 a.m. . . .

  4. One of the many good things about visiting NZ: They speak English so you can always ask someone for help! Set your mind at ease…. It will all be fine!

    1. Yes, and I have to tell myself I won't be the only one going from place to place or even staying in the same hotel!

  5. I do hope you find relief from that shoulder pain soon. Travel while you're in pain is no fun. I'll bet the person who does your examination has seen it all so often they probably wouldn't notice if you had THREE boobs!! Do feel free to ask me any questions about NZ, if you don't have friends or family you can get information from. I can email you or connect through Messenger if you'd prefer.

    1. I was too long on the computer yesterday. But then, I am not going to spend the hours of darkness doing housework! (Awake too early). You're right about the ECG - they won't take any notice.

At present, just wondering about places to eat on my week around Fjiordland. Tam looked at a couple of places and they were ridiculously expensive. The towns I'm stopping at look quite small and so I don't know how good the choice is. Thank you for your offer to help me. I have my good friend Rosie who I am staying with for the 1st and 3rd week, so she can probably answer most questions.

  6. I'd advise wearing good trainers. They are good for posture and will be wonderful for all the sightseeing you'll be doing in NZ. I have to organise my own trips and travel but there are always people who are happy to help. And if I don't do it myself I don't get to travel! Heatable wheat bags are comforting for all the aches and pains but might be a bit heavy to take on your trip. (Anon from Wiltshire)

    1. When I go walking, I always wear my walking trainers and they give a good cadence to my walk. I am completely out on a limb with regards organizing accommodation and trips abroad, though my friend Rosie in NZ got me lots of help through the Tourist Information in NZ. I have bought a mini hot water bottle/cover to use as necessary when travelling. Thanks, Anon in Wilts.

  7. Would sleeping minus the cats help with staying asleep?
I love cats and have had many over the years but now in my “later years” (!) - unless the room is dark and silent I cannot stay asleep.

    1. Of course it does, but I'm a big softee. Until 4 a.m . when I got up for the loo, I only had Alfie on the bed, then the others joined me and L. Whale was right where I wanted to put my feet. I was wide awake then! The new blackout curtains I bought this year make a big difference though. I will shut the cats out tonight . . .
