. . . I seem to have come home with a lot more fabric than I went with!!
I didn't get much done today, but it was good to be back amongst my friends. I popped in to see my friend Pam first, and took along the cake, which was gratefully received, as they had guests, and also a pot of the Lemon Marmalade I made. She had family visiting, and they had been to NZ so gave me some good tips for the flight. I definitely want to avoid feet swollen to twice their size, and also being cold on the flight too.
I left my patchwork class early as I didn't want to be driving as it began to get dark, and I had 4 puss cats waiting to be fed - they were all sat outside, waiting, and giving me Dark Looks because I was late!!
This was waiting for me on my return. Many, many thanks to D for giving me this subscription for the year - CL always cheers me up, especially the Christmas one.
I saw this lovely design on Instagram. I will need my patchwork teacher to tell me how the blocks are constructed. I think I can see the ones down the middle, it's the ones on the angle, so to speak. I need to draw it out on a chart.
Right, having had a large tuna and onion and salad baguette for lunch, I don't need much tea, so it is runner beans with a single large Tesco fish finger. Two make a big meal for me, so one should be fine for more fishy protein.
Oh, and yesterday I was doing some Family History on my Somerset relatives (mum's side), who go back in the Glastonbury, and Mark area for ever. These are the Puddy family. My 5th x g. grandmother was Obey Puddy. I was writing down her brothers and sisters again, and suddenly realized that she and two sisters didn't have names that were a hangover from Puritan times, as I had first thought, but were from their mother's wedding vows as they were called Love, Hono(u)r and Obey . . .

Oh I d so love a Br Country Living subscription, what a great gift. And such fun fabrics. Aren't the Nasturtiums delightful. Remember how fast kids grow, get busy w those dresses, but vary the size. And will Tam wash and iron cotton dresses. My little friend i sew for didn't wear her dress I made bec her mom wouldn't wash it etc, a bit sad. Will you do smocking?
ReplyDeleteDid you save the whole quilt image of the VB Red Stars? I believe it is
has two component blocks--- one double Feathered Star w pieced Wild Geese triangles, then a white square w a single pieced WG in each corner. I d try to help if needed. They're set on point. Be aware it requires very accurate piecing, but is so lovely.
It's bought me pleasure throughout the year. I'm always pleased to see it on the mat. Tam will wash cotton dresses - I will get to iron them!! Oh what a shame about the dress going unworn because the lass's mum couldn't be a*sed to wash it . . . I've not done smocking, but always wanted to.
DeleteI love the look of that quilt, but doubt I will try it, esp. if it's difficult to sew.
Maybe not difficult to sew, but fiddly with tiny pieces? Make one block, it could be a nice cushion cover. I couldn t find the entire quilt; VB takes down images when sold I think.
DeleteOh I hope you do a smocked dress for Rosie, how perfect. Start now for spring/ Easter? You'd be so good at it.
Pretty sure my friend, the mom, has never ironed anything in her entire life, lol. But if washed and tumbled dry the high quality cotton would be smooth enough, I know bec I don't iron either.
I must track down a copy of the Christmas edition of CL. I have a Christmas obsessed daughter who would love it
ReplyDeleteI always bring a wrap/ scarf on long haul flights - we visited Australia several times but never NZ - and lots of info on the web about very simple exercises you can do in your airplane seat - so you will be ok
I wish I could sew…..

Oooh, another good idea for my flight. I must make a list before I forget all the tips. I was intending to do feet/leg exercises - will probably have whoever I'm sat next to wanting to throttle me!
DeleteI'm sure you will be able to get the Christmas CL mag for your daughter.
You CAN sew. Surely you can do a neat tacking stitch - just in and out - and then that opens all sorts of sewing doors. It's all just practice.
Seeing Gabriellas comment above made me smile, my thoughts exactly - I wish I could sew!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
I shall have to get you gals to visit and we can have a sewing club round my kitchen table :)
ReplyDeleteOooh that would be so fun! I'd come! Your advice is good, anyone cane sew a simple runnng stitch by hand--and a sewing machine is just a simple power tool after all.
