This is a two post day because I have been having really annoying McAfee pop-ups which I tried to sort out through settings, but think I pressed something to do with the cookies, which have made signing into my blog difficult. Eesh. It can't be fixed until Tam is over next. Just checking to see if I can access photos and no, I can only see the number of them and not what they look like.
I have had to do the first room just from counting and comparing to my photos on my phone. You will get the idea though, and these stunning love spoons must have been so cherished through the generations.
A lovely Welsh dresser with various dairy and kitchen bowls made from Sycamore (which has a natural disinfectant), and a spoon rack bottom right.
The links of the chains for these love spoons etc are all carved from a single length of wood . . .

Love those embroideries, samplers. and are the hanging up spoons Love Spoons, they look like they are. I had that bother with McAfee and it stopped people commenting.. my husband cleared it as his job was IT.
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to have an in-house expert. Yes, the hanging up spoons are love spoons. Photos 1, 2, 4 and 9 are all love spoons. I love samplers, but stitch my own.
DeleteCan you read Mary Thomas' words?
ReplyDeleteI will get Tam to translate when she is here at the weekend Debby.
DeleteThose samplers are so intricate. I have always been interested in love spoons and those a beautiful examples.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I think the girls had to work on them on a Sunday - mostly Biblical texts, so was permitted "leisure".
DeleteLove all those things.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I go regularly and never tire of them.
DeleteGreat post, we d never know you have had issues. [There should be a drop down menu where you store your pics, and it will show tiny icons for seeing real pics and the size. Pls don t yell at me, last person I tried to help was furious w me. And...do you use an iPhone > cloud > pic storage on your computer? Bec iPhone just updated unasked and messed everything up. It might not be your doings at all.]
ReplyDeleteLovely needlework; I love that the young girls did such beautiful work.
There is a drop down, but for some reason the photos weren't showing as photos. Now I'm on Chrome for a browser, I'm ok. I wouldn't dream of yelling at you .
DeleteLovely photos despite the problems up loading.
ReplyDeleteThe samplers are still good bright colours.
Technology! Good until it isn't!
I think the samplers have been stored out of direct light.
DeleteTechnology and I are not good buddies. I shall never try and rectify anything myself again.
I rely on OH to 'fix' any computer issues and if he can't daughter can. Just waiting for Iris to turn up and I'm cooking sausage and mash for tea. No doubt the TV will be hijacked, although she doesn't mind the Olympics. Hope Jon or Tam can fix your computer, we're lost without them aren't we. Friends of ours don't have one at all or a TV, although they have recently invested in a mobile phone. Xx
ReplyDeleteI rely on Tamzin! Hope the birthday evening went well and Iris found something she really wanted in the Derby shops. I can't imagine being without a computer or a tv - I rely on both so much as companions.
DeleteI love the photos of the absolutely beautiful love spoons and needlework; thank you so very much for sharing them. I am lucky enough to own three love spoons, and although I do not have any antique samplers I am a counted cross stitcher and have stitched a few based on old patterns. I love to see the antique pieces!
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you enjoyed seeing them. I love Museums and this is one of my favourites. I've done a couple of samplers. No love spoons here though - you are very fortunate.
DeleteLove spoon carvers are incredible. As are those young sew-ers.
ReplyDeleteHello and welcome to you. The love spoons are just so skilfully made and to think of little fingers seeing so diligently at such a young age. I am sure they went on to be skilled quilt makers and dressmakers for the family (my gran made all the clothes for her children).
