He's home

But what they didn't tell me was he'd been operated on late and was still very groggy.  He came out of the cat carrier and his legs wouldn't hold him up - he was terrified - eyes like black saucers from the drugs - and scared of me too.  He was trying to run away and went up the stairs, before he fell down again, "ran" into the library then living room, banging himself on furniture.  Oh it was ghastly.  I managed to catch him and lift him up for cuddles and strokes, but he wasn't happy until he had gone upstairs and hidden under a bed.  He wants to go out, but he can't till tomorrow morning.  I have bought the bowl of rainwater he drinks from inside for him.  Poor lad had two broken molars right at the back - she thought from biting on a rabbit bone or similar.  He hasn't been catching rabbits for a couple of years so don't know, though he did have a fight with the feral tom a few weeks back and perhaps hit his face on a rock?

It was very distressing for both of us.  Once he was under the bed I put the thawed mince away and went down the town for chips and a bottle of wine.  I need a glass of that for my nerves tonight as it has been not the best day of my life (or his, poor chap).  It is so hard having to cope on my own.

I am off to try and "relax" now.  I've cancelled my birthday outing to Bath now - the vet's bill was £520.   I have my short holiday break in Denmark, and need spending money for that, and then £225 is going out to pay for my stand at the Builth Antiques Fair in May.  I will have to get listing for sale everything I can post or deliver locally . . .  Does anyone sell on Gumtree?  Was thinking about that rather than Facebook Marketplace.

  1. I feel for you and being alone with these problems just makes it worse. My cats are a worry for me too. I hope it all gets better for you and the cat tomorrow. And Happy Birthday. Rachel xx

  2. He is home safe and sound, that's the main thing. Our little dog gets operated on next week. A day's drive to get to the hospital and another one post op. It's the drive back I'm dreading, with a fragile dog. I have been walking through the house trying to identify things I can sell to pay for it.

  3. Poor Alfie. He will hopefully feel a bit better after a good nights sleep. When I take a cat to the vet I take my friend with me. I don't always understand what the vet is telling me, so it's best if there are two of us.

  5. Aww, poor dear. He is home now and once he gets over the stress, you will be able to love on him again. I feel for you, and a glass of wine to settle your nerves from this operation is perfect.

    God bless.

  8. You should have been warned by the vets..but at least he is home safe.
I have sold on Gumtree once, and bought a couple of things. I've used Nextdoor as well, but the messages on that take an age to get through

  9. That sounds so distressing for both of you. I hope he managed to have a good sleep and has managed to shake off the anaesthetic.
I haven't used Facebook Marketplace (I have heard horror stories about it) or Gumtree. My husband sells on Ebay. Listings are free and they work out the postage for you. He has always just posted things out or, if they are big, said that they are for collection only. I wouldn't be offering that option though, if I lived on my own. Just recently someone opted for an InPost drop off. After a slight panic and a telephone assistance call with our daughter, as the InPost website wouldn't show our nearest drop off point, we discovered that it was in our nearest town. So, a six mile drive there and back just so the buyer could conveniently pick it up at a spot near to them! He then managed to find how to stop that option appearing for future buyers.

  10. It is so hard to cope with poorly pets especially if they are groggy and don't recognize you. I think you deserved the wine. Regards Sue H

  11. Poor little Alfie, it will take him a few days to adjust. Best keep him in as well, you don't want him running away from home.

  12. They really should have warned you, then you could have left him safely in the cat carrier for an hour to acclimatise to being home again. Dogs are so much easier than cats when they are ill, they just want to cuddle up to you and you can keep an eye on them, cats just want to be alone. I hope he is soon feeling better.

  14. I think the hardest thing about procedures for animals (and small children) is that they don't understand what is happening, they don't understand why it is happening. It is awful to watch.
