Well, THAT'S a turnaround . . .

Today I feel amazing!  I have energy, my tummy's a bit flatter and enjoying my cucumber water.  No fizzy drinks (be gone, Diet Coke) and no alcohol.  Any sore bits in my diverticular area are not sore now.  I looked out my clever guts diet cookery book and have been to T*sco and the Health Food shop to stock up.  Should have remembered that Lidl sell Chia seeds as they are WAY cheaper than the HFS . . .

As Tam and Rosie were heading this way, I made Chocolate Apple Cake before breakfast and it is SO light.  Best I've ever made.  I had a small piece after my lunch.

One of the things on my shopping list was a good Cider Vinegar with Mother.  I had it with my tuna salad for lunch and it was a revelation - SO much flavour - 100% better than the vinegary T*sco own brand, and I could happily take the daily 1/2 teaspoon on its own and look for more. I got shallots too and will be making cider vinegar pickled shallots soon.

Hopefully mending now.  Will keep you posted.

  1. In haste x have been meaning to call but am flat out here . ACV as you’ve found is palatable if a decent one, we take 5ml in warm water first thing each morning.
Chia seeds I have found are best put through a Nutribullet and turned into something like chia chocolate pud- a well made one will fill any healthy eater dodger lol but anything other than that I find them repugnant as they swell up like frogspawn.
Most with a previously low fibre diet will find they bloat once introducing pulses, it DOES go away. Rinse the water off if tinned as that can help reduce the parps! Chickpeas and butter beans can be added to any existing way you make a curry, as can tinned puy/green lentils. It’s not always about not eating thing but more making them more balanced with nutrition and fibre. Also it eeeks out the meat more to add in tinned beans and lentils.
Little and often! You will get there, oh and get into the habit of eating a tiny portion of something raw before you eat whatever else you are eating , a couple of carrot sticks or celery , or crunch pepper, anything. It prepares the gut so much better if you put a small amount of raw in first
IBS wrecked my life when I was younger and flared horridly after the parlarva of lockdowns and I’ve been consciously eating for gut health for a long time now

  4. It's nice to hear you sounding so much better and lighter in spirit too. Yes, Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother is a game-changer isn't it.

  7. Pleased to hear you’re on the mend. The French often eat a small salad as a starter before the meat and veg course! Best wishes JennyP

  8. You do sound so much better! Rest and healthy food really help. Cider vinegar with the mother is good! I use it for pickling beets, green beans and cucumbers.

  9. I am glad you are doing much better frowns on Fizzy drinks as she used to be a Dental Hyginest and saw what they did yo peoples teeth but cucumber water does not sound that nice. Apple cider, not something I had on my food. My wife bought it to put on her warts when she had them, it rotted them away and burned her hand. Vicious stuff. If you did not read my comment while you were in Hospital I did get around the rest of the clerics trail and am now writing up the blogs which will star in a couple of weeks after the present ones. Fforest fields has an even on called Save Fforest Fields I think this weeked. my first though was that the place was going under but I found out it is to fight off the wind farm that is threatened to be put on Aberedw Hill, that would devastate it, I try to get up there each year and love the scenery a wind farm would totally kill it.

  10. I LOVE cucumber and a slice of it in the water makes it more palatable to me. The Apple cider vinegar is good for gut health so should help my problems. The one I bought is less acidic than the cheaper version. I used to use Greater Celendine juice to treat a wart and that worked well.

Oh well done getting round Kilvert's trail. Something I need to do - that would really give me a purpose through the dark days of winter. Looking forward to reading your blog postings on the churches. Yes, that is the windfarm we are all fighting - but there are plans to put up windfarms all over Wales and ruin it for everyone who lives there, from the tiniest insect upwards. Some are being chucked out straight away - like the one right on the edge of Army land on the Epynts - but they've properly got the bit between their teefs on Aberedw - the most beautiful and magical area in mid Wales. Heartbreaking and we seem to have no voice when the Welsh Government is going to allow it to happen regardless because their pension funds are tied up in it.

  11. I don't know if you have been up Aberedw hill but here is a link to some of the photos I took up there many years ago but it shows what is at risk https://spudsdailyphoto.blogspot.com/2025/09/aberedew-hill.html
