A Lorna Doone sort of day

Of course, I have been on the sofa all day again.  I fancied watching Lorna Doone earlier, but couldn't find the remote for the dvd player.  I watched the - much shortened to extracts - clips on You Tube, but then Tam phoned and told me I didn't need the remote for the dvd player so I watched it again in its entirety again.  The Lorna refrain is so beautiful.  It is now vieing with The 13th Warrior for most viewed film in our house (Keith loved the latter film).

Incidentally, the shooting of Lorna at her wedding to Jan Ridd was based on an actual happening, whem poor Mary Whiddon was shot and killed by a jealous former suitor, on 11th October 1641 at Chagford Church.

I have been feeling very emotional and run down today and had lots of tears on and off.  I've had this bug for 10 days now.  I didn't have the strength to drive down to town for some bread and so I forced myself to start off a half and half dough in the breadmaker, and now have a nice round crusty loaf baking in the oven.

I don't know what tea will be - probably just freshly-baked bread, although I did get a tin of Heinz Ravioli the other day, in case I fancied something quick (and not very nutritious!)  It cost an arm and a leg too . . .

I had a cat-flap delivery this morning - my beautiful little piece of Dartmoor - the jug from Powdermills pottery and I am absolutely delighted with it. The natural colours are peaty and soothing.  My connection with the moor and my ancestral roots.

  1. I'd forgotten about Heinz ravioli - it use to be a staple at one time.
    Your jug colours sound lovely

    1. It is a lovely little jug. Not showy or anything, just Dartmoor through and through.

About to see if I have an appetite for Ravioli.

  2. I love your jug, its definitely Dartmoor in its colours. I think Lorna Doone has been on TV this week, on Talking Pictures channel. I've done a food shop, looking very carefully at dates. Couldn't find a small Christmas pud for OH, but will try M&S. Our little development are having a carol singing event on Monday (fingers crossed for dry weather) and I said I would make chocolate brownies to take, so that added to the bill. Iris slightly better today. Daughter having an interview for her own job today, the Uni are having to cut back. She will have a job - its just whether she goes up or down the ladder. Very annoying when they head-hunted her 4 years ago. Xx

    1. It has cheered me up. Gabby has offered to do the food shop. I will just go to the butcher for meats. Hope you get lucky at M&S with the small Christmas pudding. Fingers x'd for dry weather on Monday night.

Sorry about your daughter's job and hope she goes up rather than down.

    1. No. I was given antibiotics in case my chest got worse, but it didn't so they are in the cupboard. I don't think it was Covid as symptoms not right. Think I am generally just very run down and had better get some good multivitamins.

  5. Poor Mary Whiddon. That story would still cause shockwaves today.

    1. I have turned it round to the honey gold side now, which has lighter ripples going through it. I think of Postbridge and Powdermills and the moor every time I look at it.

  7. I must read things more slowly. I thought you said you had a cat flap delivered. The bread looks lovely. For a quick meal I like the pesto pasta, microwave for one minute.

    1. Haha! I do need a new one as it's getting a bit rickety with fat L. Whale going through it. The bread is SO much nicer than supermarket rubbish, and has so few ingredients. I try to buy stone ground flour so the nutrients are left in. I am not a great fan of instant anythings and at the moment my taste buds have been re-set from so little food and nothing tastes as I think it ought to!

  8. What a lovely jug. Your loaf looks so nice and will be greatly appreciated with your ravioli (notice I say with the ravioli).

    God bless.

    1. Love my jug :) The loaf is tasty and filling and I will dry and crumble a few slices for the stuffing balls on Christmas Day. Tummy so shrunken that cannot manage bread AND ravioli! It was a real challenge to eat all the ravioli as I have been on half tins of soup etc - cannot manage a bite more.

  9. Tinned ravioli is something I've grown up with. Still love on on toast.

    1. Never had it on toast, but when it was cheaper, I would have it in the storecupboard for a quick lunch. Then it got to needing a mortgage to buy it (£2 or more a tin) and I thought it had become a luxury - a bit like the Crab Pate I used to have as a rare treat.
