I have to say, the 3 day weekend was pretty full on. I babysat Rosie on Friday - away out of the house by 7, and not back until gone 8 p.m. and then Rosie was still awake at 10 as she had slept in the car coming here from Aber. I had no chance of "down time".
A rare Llandod picture. This is now the pharmacy, and the road immediately by it leads down to the Lake.Saturday we went to Llandod, and then Rosie was pretty full on back at home, and same on Sunday, though the day was broken up going to Brecon, and walking around the mostly empty town. The Militaria Fair that Keith and I used to do was on in the Market building, so I popped in to say hello to some friends, had BIG hugs with them, and then joined Tam in the Cat Shelter charity shop. All thoughts of going for a walk were off as it was threatening to rain on and off all day.
One of the huge Victorian houses in the town (which is 95% Victorian architecture, built in a short period to make the most of the Spa wells in the town). I loved the attic window design.
Tam and Jon had bought a huge, nay ENORMOUS tent from Vinted. She put it (having been checked) in the back of my car, and we needed to get it out for the base to be totally dried off before it went back into the bag. We managed it, between showers, but gosh, it's not easy to pack! It's so big you could have a Festival in it! Fortunately the rain held off long enough.
This was probably once a hotel.
Tam helped me with various jobs I had on my list. The best thing she did was to change my Smarty phone plan which she had originally set up for 2G because I didn't use my phone much. However, listening to (many) hours of Podcasts has decreed that I needed more and she upgraded it to 8G for the same money. That put a smile on my face. I am late to Podcasts but enjoy them SO MUCH. Three Ravens is my favourite, and Dan's Snow's History Hit, Medieval Murders, Ramblings, The Poisoners' Cabinet. Must look for Archaeology ones too. OMG - just checked and don't know where to start! Anyway, we sorted out banking too, Vistaprint for my business cards and got a sack (have 3) of FYM up to the top of the paddock for the Winter Squashes whichTam and Rosie sowed yesterday. Didn't get around to bleeding the radiators, and I didn't sort out my small camera and charging/changing batteries until this morning. Nearly there though, and Ed and friend carried up the other two sacks of FYM for me.
I felt really tired after lunch, and went for a nap and slept for over 2 hours, so that was the entire afternoon gone (was going to garden). Tomorrow is another day. Having Rosie here is exhausting.
I watched the final episode of Outlander last night - on tenterhooks tbh. It was well done. I won't spoil it for you in case you haven't watched it, but I do feel absolutely lost without it now. Will have to buy her last book in case she writes a totally different ending. We have all been reading the books/watching the series so many years, the characters seem almost like family now.

I'm moving to Llandrindod (Landod) hopefully in a few weeks, so I'm very much enjoying your posts on the area. My youngest grandchildren are older now but I remember being exhausted after looking after them and wondering how I ever had the energy to bring up my own children! Take care T.
ReplyDeleteHello T. I am sure you will love it there. Walks around the lake and up through the woods are enjoyable. If you;'ve not been to the Elan Valley before you are in for a real treat, it's stunning, whatever the season/weather. Yes, energy levels in my 70s not what they were in my 30s when I had my kids.
DeleteMy body often tells me that I'm actually older than I think I am!
ReplyDeleteSounds like busy, busy days.
Oh yes I agree with that one - brain thinks it's 30, body says definitely NOT! Having Friday to start the weekend from finished me off before I had started! It was the no chance to unwind from getting up to going to bed.
DeleteThere really are a world of Podcasts to choose from.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. The Three Ravens one is amazing and I am enjoying learning bits about Welsh folklore I had never heard before, as well as the much-loved tales. They did a special round up of the Welsh counties, the rest is UK wide.
DeleteI have childcare at one end and Stepmum at the other end and I'm exhausted after dealing with them, although the children are easier as they don't disagree with everything you say or do. Off to my best friend's funeral tomorrow and I'm doing a reading, that will be a round journey of roughly 4-5 hours. Then Wednesday taking Stepmum to the Optician's for further tests. Its all go! Xx
ReplyDeleteOH gosh, no respite for you then Gill. My children were at least well into their teens before I had to start caring for my mum (she lived at home with us). I hope that the funeral is not too demanding on you - a lot of driving, and giving a reading for your best friend will hit you hard. You are braver than me.
DeleteI was in my mid/late 40's and early 50's when the grandchildren were produced and usually had only one at a time to watch occasionally. It requires a rather constant energy!
ReplyDeleteI watched only a few of the earlier Outlander series and felt they really didn't do justice to the books, but that is my standard response to books turned films.
I find that I use my phone for texting or sometimes an actual call; I find the screen too tiny to enjoy a you tube presentation.
Ah, I am 25/30 years on from you when your grandchildren were small. "A rather constant energy" sums it up. I am always looking for accidents to happen - she goes MAD on her rocking horse and has had it over backwards before now - but Tam thinks she should have small accidents and learn from them. When there is a sharply-angled table edge or a stone fireplace plinth, I err on the side of caution!
DeleteI have just been drawn in to the Outlander story, I was happy to see it televised. Mind you, Jamie was easy on the eyes :)
I don't watch youtube videos on my phone either, the Podcasts I am following are all audio ones.
Lovely Victorian architecture. Dang I need to remember to tape Outlander tonight.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yes, and there is a lot of it! The Metrapole hotel has a fabulous Wisteria the entire width of the building at the front. Hope you enjoyed the Outlander finale.
ReplyDeleteWe loved Outlander and felt lost when we watched the last episode, still haven't found something to watch instead, if you do can you blog it please.
ReplyDeleteI was up showered, breakfast and out the door by 6.15 am for a 50 minute trip to care for my 2 and 4 year old granddaughters. Home by 8pm, now on couch, dog on lap. Can’t move 😂 JennyP
ReplyDeleteGot to admit there are a lot of nice buildings there, I must have another walk around the place and not just Tescos. Not sure I want to listen to my body, too many noises come from it
ReplyDeleteIt doesn’t take much to exhaust me these days - in fact I feel tired just reading about your busy days 😉😀😘
