If I had a brain, I'd be dangerous!

I have not slept at all well for over a week.  The boys want to be in the front hall at night, with access to the catflap.  I don't really want them going out there in case that feral tom is about in the night BUT Alfie has been waking me several times a night yowling to go out.  4.30 is the worst time as by then I have had sufficient sleep that I find it hard to drop off again.  So my brain is not feeling at all refreshed.

I decided as I needed Methylated Spirits, cat biscuits and wanted to go to Midway Plants, I would give myself a little outing and treat.  I wanted a new Clematis to replace one which had died.  I got to Tesco, then suddenly realized I had left my bum bag on the kitchen table.  Drove home.  Bum bag there, quick check - but my cards weren't in it!  Tried to retrace my steps - the last place I had been was Hay & Brecon Farmers, for compost.  I drove there but it wasn't behind the counter.  The chap who had served me took me to check back through the CCTV footage.  We both thought it was yesterday, but it was Tuesday - footage showed me using my little walking bag not my bumbag, so I came home and found my cards.  Phew.  That is now three bumbag/cards related incidents in recent weeks, so hopefully that is IT.

The amazing Paul's Himalayan Musk, which spreads across several trees now.

I bought myself a very well grown Clematis - Montana grandiflora, which is white.  I also extended the treat to a Hardy Geranium, Ann Folkard, which is puce and rather gorgeous.  That is going to go at the edge of the bank, near my lovely rose Roserie de l'Hay, which is a similar colour.  Tam always said it was the scent of summer at Ynyswen.

After a nap, I have been sorting out what is going to Saturday's Fair.  I shall not overload the table and need to keep prices mostly £40 and under as folk aren't keen to spend much more there it would seem.

I have several stools/childrens' chairs to go.  Hopefully they will find new homes.  This won't do.  Before I have my evening meal, I shall go and plant the clematis.

  1. I can empathise over the lack of sleep. I am really having problems too - either I can't get to sleep or I wake after a few hours and can't get back to sleep! It is horrid because it is so hard to do anything much the next day. Sadly, I cannot nap in the daytime. I took had problems with my cards and purse recently! Thankfully I had left them in the shopping bags in Herefordshire but I had to wait about 2 weeks to find out they were safe! By which time I had cancelled the debit card and ordered a new one - all unnecessarily!

    The clematis looks lovely.

I hope all goes well at the next fair.

    1. I find Magnesium helps. In the middle of the night, after a trot to the bathroom, I can nod off again quickly - unless there is a Fair the next day, in which case, forget it!!

Tip for daytime naps - put Timeteam on with a low volume and believe me, you will be able to nod off. I swear by it!

I think my problems with losing my cards/bag etc is Not Paying Attention. Must be more 'with it'.

The photo was of the Hardy Geranium (have them everywhere). The clematis has flowered for this year, and will be white.

  2. I have done the missing items thing as well and then found them also. I love the rose in the first photo. I am keeping fingers crossed that you manage to get a few things gone at the Fair.

    God bless.

    1. I'm glad it's not just me. I've had a lot on in May - 3 Fairs, two of them 2 and 2 1/2 days - it wipes me out. Tomorrow's Fair costs me £45 plus £8 ish fuel. I am lucky to double my money with sales. I do it for the social side as much as anything, as all my friends there.

  3. The Paul's HM is stunning. Your garden is beautiful with all the roses, wildflowers etc. Terrific news about Rosie. What a little champ she has been.

    1. I will try and find a photo of the one in my old garden. It was stupendous.

Rosie has been brilliant and I can't wait to see her running around again, instead of having the bad leg straight and limping so badly.

  5. For some reason for the past two weeks I have been waking up around the 5.30am mark, and it's been hit and miss whether I have been able to get back to sleep or end up just getting up and making coffee. Do you ever have a 'bargain box' at the end of your stall for people to have a little look through, I used to find it a good way of getting rid of bits and pieces that I was fed up with at around a fiver.

  6. Sleep at our age can be so problematic can’t it.
Mislaid cards , keys etc - I wonder if sometimes it’s a sign of a very busy mind…… always being one step ahead mentally as it were……… I’m trying to ‘ take a moment ‘ before any trips away from the house…….. breath deeply and do the checking thing. Sometimes it works 😁

    1. Over the winter it was much better. But these light mornings wake the cats up! I have blackout curtains in my bedroom but then the front of the house doesn't have pulled curtains . . . or downstairs. Not closing them at night now as I go to bed before it is dark. Yes, I do have a busy mind - and when I've not slept well, poor concentration. I will take a tip from you and try and do the same.

OOOOOOOH! Which just reminded me I took £100 out of my bumbag before I went on my walk and I am just putting it back IN for the Fair tomorrow. Thank you Alison.

  7. Ugh. We have a feral coming in. At first, we did not mind, but as he acclimated, he has become very aggressive. Something will have to be done.

The title of your post made me laugh. i say the exact same words re: myself frequently.

    1. I am hoping this one is away up with the farm cats up the hill. Do NOT want him round here causing problems, especially as (gypsy) owner not inclined to help at all.

Yes, it's a phrase I heard years ago and has stuck with me.

  8. We arrived home today from our cruise to Norway. Very interesting at the ports we called at, Alesund was particularly pretty having lots of Art Nouveau buildings. Too much food, I foresee lots of salad next week. I've managed to hang one lot of washing out, underwear/socks etc have gone in drier and whites are soaking. Forecast was not good for tomorrow so I ran the mower over quickly. I shall sleep well tonight as we could embark between 7-8 am, so we got off at 7 and were home for noon. Pleased Rosie is running round. Take care. Xx

  9. Welcome home. I am glad you had a lovely time Gill. You are getting very sorted already!

I can't wait to see Rosie again on Sunday, and read her new book to her - The Dinosaur that Pooped a Pirate!!

  10. Love the setting for the table and chairs you have between the roses. I hope you did not get any plants from Tesco because when I went down there yesterday they looked in need of water, I would not buy any of them. BTW what are they doing down by the showground roundabout, I have a long wait both ways if I go to Greggs.

    1. It's something to do with the water supply. Meant to be 9 weeks but well past that and heading towards much longer. A proper PITA. No, Tesco never water their plants (what a waste, it's like murder!) Occasionally if one is not too dessicated I will buy something out of pity :)

  11. I love hardy geraniums and had lots at Dingles. My favourite is Mrs Kendal Clarke. My Ann Folkhard somehow got lost in the two moves from my big garden but then I saw one in a friend's garden and she let me dig up a bit which is now doing really well at the end of the front garden.
