I have Tam and Rosie here for the weekend. Rosie still allergic to sleep and I was in bed before her last night! We have promised to take her to the swings today, so hopefully it will stay dry.
I went to the butchers yesterday and got some of their sausages - their special lamb/mint/honey ones which were tasty. Then lamb burgers for today's meal and bread and scrape the rest of the week!
Some photos from Friday's walk.
I am hoping to finish the quilt off this evening, with a bit of help of course! I have one and a half sides left to do.
I've just had a visit from part-time neighbour Sam. He was telling me of his plans - holiday in Egypt with his Chinese girlfriend, then on to Portugal with his mate, then in December, 3 months in China, living with his girlfriend up in the mountains. It sounds amazing. Oh to be young, footloose and fancy free and newly in love again :) I shall miss him - we've had some good chats.

Lovely views on your walk. We have sunshine today in East Sussex but a stiff breeze blowing off the sea. Bread and scrape, that was something my old Dad used to say. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteYes, I have done a freezer raid and found a tasty Teso steak slice for tea. Just need to sort out fine green beans and cauliflower to go with it.
DeleteYour walk looks lovely in the sunshine and lovely to have a girls weekend. Hopefully all on the mend. I've eaten bread and scrape a few times in the past! As a child, ( a hundred years ago it feels! ), whenever I asked my nan ( born 1900 ) what was for dinner she would always reply " bread and pull it " very frustrating to a child who only really wanted to know if she had to face half a plateful of cabbage with her dinner!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard that expression before! I do hope you didn't get that plateful of cabbage too often :)
DeleteYou have a real talent Fiordland framing lovely photos .
ReplyDeleteI love the flavour of lamb but it’s very pricey isn’t it?

I have an eye for a view - it was rewarded much better by my old camera, defunct this year. I must try and replace it. We normally have lamb for Christmas - I go for the Salt Marsh Lamb from Dewi Roberts in Ffairfach, Llandeilo. Scrummy but as you said, an arm and a leg to buy it.
DeleteBeautiful views. Poor Tam must be exhausted if Rosie isn't sleeping well/or not at all. Been there and got the t-shirt! Natalie was a terrible sleeper and so was Iris until she started school. Fortunately Christopher sleeps well, but wakes early. They've just bought his 1st pair of shoes and taken out a second mortgage on them, size 3F. Enjoy your bread and scrape. Xx
ReplyDeleteTam hasn't had a good night's sleep - or even an evening off - for 2 yrs now. I am hoping that Rosie will sleep better when she starts at Meithrin (nursery school, they go at 3).
DeleteGosh, I hate to think how much children's shoes cost now.
Autumn sunlight can really hit the spot...and lift the spirits
ReplyDeleteIt does indeed. Back to overcast today but I have another burst of yellow roses I can see, beside some yellow Rudbeckia, through the old Georgian door into the house.
DeleteWalking has always been a sanity saver, along the dirt roads of my original home or in my grandfather's meadows and woods. Now that we've finally been released from hot summer temps we can walk the loop around the property, usually at dusk.
ReplyDeleteI had just a short walk this morning and really didn't enjoy it. I fancy taking myself out to the Elan valley for a walk this week, weather dependent.
DeleteI am not familiar with the term 'bread and scrape'. Could I get an translation? Those views are glorious.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been bread and beef dripping, from a Sunday roast, in the past. I am fortunate for the views locally.
DeleteMy Dad used to make himself bread and dripping with salt and pepper sandwiches for his "packing up" when he and Mam were first married and he had just left the Navy after the war Mam apparently said you can't take that the men will think I don't know how to feed you but he said but I like it always have done. The diet police today would have a fit, he lived to 85.
ReplyDeleteYour photos of the country side where you live is always so lovely especially at this time of year here in Perth Australia it is spring and weather very changeable yesterday a bit chilly at 19c today 24c tomorrow to be 26c and wait for it Wednesday 32c. but then to go down again and a few days of showers. Happy sewing. From Shirley.
Mum used to have it too, but I never noticed my dad having it so obviously not something his family used to have - or perhaps he didn't like it.
DeleteIt is beautiful countryside around here and I prefer it to Carmarthenshire. I like my countryside to be wilder. That said, some of the views I had back on Carmarthenshire walks were fabulous too.
Gosh, your spring temps sound hellish with straight into 32 deg! No sewing done yet today as absolutely tired out.
Wales is so beautiful as is Devon too, of course. We are lucky to have such countryside to enjoy but I echo your 'Oh! to be..........'
ReplyDeleteBoth stunning areas. My Dartmoor roots call loudly at times.
DeleteYour area is gorgeous!!! Hope everyone is doing better!
ReplyDeleteJon got back to work last Wednesday. Rosie mending, but needs ongoing treatment for her juvenile arthritis, sadly.
