So, did I buy anything?

Yes, I had a shopping list.  I did buy proper quilting needles for my sewing machine.  I passed on the ultra expensive Best Pins for quilting.  RIDICULOUS prices esp. as made in China like everything else. I pondered whether to improve my rotary cutter by buying a new one with titanium blades.  As I had recently bought blades (non Titanium) for the one I have, I let that rest.  Fabrics it was then.  Some felts to take the place of the woollen fabrics suggested in the cushion I want to make from Kim Diehl's Simple Harvest (they are wool felt anyway).

That's my dehumidifier they're on (currently drying my clothes and extracting moisture in the Utility Room, under the laundry poles in the corner.  The single ones were 80p each and I think it was just under £11 the lot.

A Christmas bundle.  I think this was £11, so not bad value.  I want to make a tree skirt this year.

These gorgeous different colourway variations on William Morris' s Strawberry Thief tempted me on Doughty's stand, as well as the half metre below I bought from them too.  £3 per fat quarter.

This is from the Fine French Linen stand and it will go with these below which I bought at the Builth Quilt show back in the spring.  They had a kit/pack of pattern and fabric for a gorgeous triangles quilt but that was about £120!  I will make up my own.  Perhaps just a lap quilt.  This was 1/2m for £7.

Plus a metre of this gorgeous pink print which won't go to waste with grand-daughters in the family.  £7.

Here's the duvet cover I got at the Fleamarket, which is a lovely design and colour-way.  All washed and dried and ready to use.

I nearly forgot, this is the cushion cover for me to embroider for a friend for Christmas.  £8.  I shall start on that this evening.  There should be a new video from Rewilding Jude, and I'm looking forward to that.

I have lots of fabrics to make things with over the winter now, as it could either be very cold or very wet and windy or a combination of both.

Podcasts for the last two days were from Three Ravens (ghosty stories for Halloween) and two brilliant podcasts from The Rest is History about King Arthur and his Knights.

  1. That duvet cover is gorgeous, sort of William Morris but not. I did try looking for the pattern but nothing came up. I've been rushing round like a mad thing trying to get the house sorted, washing and ironing done as OH has booked us a few days away in West Bay. The forecast doesn't look promising, but it will be nice to have a few days to sit and do nothing as I'm still feeling a bit ugh after my Covid jab and then the flu one yesterday. Take care. Xx

    1. It's probably a Dunelm one. I thought, if I don't use it as a duvet cover I can always cut it up for a patchwork quilt!

Enjoy West Bay. I get my flu jab tomorrow but am 6 mths short of being old enough for the Covid jab these days. Dorset has remained being SO bone dry since April or May, so it would be bad luck to arrive there and for the rain to join you!

    1. It's always dearer purchasing stuff at Fairs anyway, and I was mindful of that with the rotary cutter etc.

  4. The fabrics are beautiful. Always liked William Morris Strawberry Thief especially in blue. Perfect haul for the winter months, you will be busy. The duvet set is a gorgeous colour too, very warm looking.

    1. I have a lovely red duvet set the girls bought us, but Keith didn't like as it was very good quality but noisy when you turned over in bed. It sort of scrunched.

  5. Oo we have strawberry theif curtains on our french windows in our house, cost a lot. Years ago we sold a set at a car boot sale, this pregnant woman spotted them but did not have enough and had to borrow dome from her mum, she got a dam good buy even though they were sun bleached a bit. Have a look at Kelmscott wher William Morris lived

    1. Kelmscott is on my day-out list but I would have to set off very early to make the most of the day as it's a fair old drive. Diesel prices prevented it happening this summer (along with the heat!) Thank you for sharing your blog post about it. LOVE that hand window catch especially, but love it ALL full stop!

  6. I have several of Kim Diehl's earlier books . I admire her work but haven't tried many of the quilt patterns as I don't do much with applique. Her machine method calls for using monofilament thread which discouraged me. The styling and photography in the books are a joy.

    1. I do applique, though not that often. The last I did was the central panel on Rosie's quilt. I was rather proud of that. I have to say, the illustrations in Kim Diehl's books really sell them to me although I am used to a more colourful palette.

  8. Such beautiful fabrics, even though I rarely sew I love to see such gorgeous designs.
A good idea to have lots to do in case all these storms they are telling us are coming actually happen, my yarn stash is full to overflowing 🤭😂

    1. A good stand with lovely colourful fabrics is a feast for the eyes. I only knit occasionally and am not very good at it . . .

  10. Your fabrics are lovely, you have a wonderfully eclectic eye for style and color. I esp love the soft blue/ greys--my fave colors tho I find them hard to use in an actual project.
Sewing pins [previous post?]. I looked up price here in US, 100 sewing pins from Clover, w the yellow plastic bobble heads are 12.oo USD for 100. I have bought better but like the rather clunky Clover version. Funny how they disappear.
When I designed clothes, my full time job, fabric and findings were ordered with no thought to the price. I loved ordering new pins, fine or heavyweight from the 100 odd year old purveyor of pins in the Garment District. A shoe box size box full of pins, 1000 dozen. The heavyweights were just for me, as I used them instead of a stapler to hold pattern pieces together. What a luxury.
