We're taking a trip up to Abergavenny . . .
Do you remember that song? Gosh, seems like half a lifetime away now. Anyway, today we took advantage of a sunny day and headed Eastwards along the beautiful Usk Valley, and visited the Fleamarket held in the Market Hall at Abergavenny. I have shown flying goats before - this time it was Owls that featured, and they were stunning. A longer post tomorrow . . . promise.
Views in the Usk Valley.
Above and below: the beautiful Trewtower Court. More words and photos tomorrow.
Used to play in the USK behind my gran's in Brecon as a child, catching fry in a shrimp net! Walk to pencelli along the canal that crosses the Usk in an aquaduct. Happy times.
No poets Thelma, it was the families of the Pychards (Picards) and Vaughans who lived there (see Wikipedia entry) and a connection to Owain Glyndwr too. I love it because our house must have been very similar (though smaller) in that same period of the late 1400s.
I love the spirit of those owls and the valley is lovely.
ReplyDeleteAren't they lovely? So well crafted too. I think the Usk Valley is absolutely outstanding.
DeleteAbergavenny is in the Harry Potter books that I used to read to my kids. We would wonder what Abergavenny looked like. Guess now I have a peek. Lovely
ReplyDeleteMy kids have read the Harry Potter books - didn't know Abergavenny was in them. It's such a beautiful area round there.
DeleteThose owls are amazing and beautiful views of the Usk Valley. Look forward to reading and seeing more :)
ReplyDeleteAm just girding my loins RR! If the in keeps shining (it's been raining) I need to garden first though.

ReplyDeleteI used to catch Minnows in a tiny laneside stream in the New Forest Simon. Simple pleasures. Glad I have brought some back for you too.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos Jennie, Tretowers was a beautiful day out for us to, was there not a poet who lived there, Herbert or something?
