So I unpicked it and restitched with another bit of green net.
This was the right way up in my photos. Cant seem to change it, Anyway, this bottom picture is yesterday's scruffy base and is now much better.
It was a housework sort of day today, and a do a bit more Elderberry Bunny knitting sort of afternoon. I am on the head now, having finished the body and legs yesterday. Progress.
I hope no-one had been directly affected by Storm Chantra but the flooding in the West Country looks dreadful. I could hear the rain pelting the French Windows yesterday, but didn't realize it was seeping through until I pulled the curtains and saw a couple of small puddles on the tiles at the edge of the window, and splash marks on my Ashford spinning wheel. It's double glazed, so surely should be waterproof? Some ingress definitely from the windows as the spinning wheel splashed. I will have to get busy with some polish when I've rubbed it down. I've moved it away from the window now. My box of Christmas decorations, which hides behind the big curtains, had taken in water too so that is moved to the Library now. No damage inside though. I will have to get the French Windows checked out - the sill on them needs replacing for starters as where I "mended" it this summer, the paint has come off already from damp.

Gosh - Ashford wheels are made in Ashburton (New Zealand !!) unless they're also made under licence in the UK. Anyway, they're the Gold standard of wheels! Isn't the weather awful - Australia has massive heat waves, with some parts reaching nearly 50°, the US huge snow storms, and here in NZ, campers have lost their lives under a huge slip at Mount Maunganui, an iconic camping ground beside a wonderful beach and tourist/holiday destination. So sad.
ReplyDeleteYes! We drove through Ashburton when I was on my middle week's exploring in NZ. They have a BIG factory there. The weather seems to be on steroids - not just ordinary heat, rain or snow but mega. I saw that there had been a land slip at Mount Maunganui - no protection from a tent. Those poor families.
DeleteYou have a spinning wheel. Lord I am envious, Harvey says I have enough hobbies so spinning will be left on hold until I can convince him differently. So sorry that water is entering the windows. Could it be the caulking around the windows that is the problem?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Perhaps you could sneak a drop spindle in without him noticing. TBH, we only have one life and I'd say, if you want to spin, go tell Harvey it is good for your mental health :) It is REALLY relaxing. I opened the door on the French windows this morning and have given it a good slam. It was damp down the edge when I ran my fingers down it last night. I hope that's all it is but the sill still needs mending. Will have to call up Sam when he comes back from Thailand. (He stays with my new neighbour and was the lad who helped with the painting last year.
DeleteThat is beautiful stitching and looks so good.
ReplyDeleteVery annoying about your leak - hope you can find where the rain is coming in and get it fixed without huge expense
Thank you. It was annoying me and I was pleased to redo it. Think the water came in the door - the wind and rain were driving hard against it so that would explain it.
ReplyDeleteYou have more patience than me, it’s a lovely piece of stitching. Also, I particularly like your header photo at the moment.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
It didn't take that long Alison. It was surprising! 3 or 4 evenings. Including the unpicking and restitching - that was barely half an hour.
DeleteThe header is a view from my usual walk uphill and down dale along the lane. Looking across towards - beyond a good few miles and hills - Rhayader and the Elan Valley.
Our upvc French windows let in a draughty I know but never seen water come in, it does not stop ants and wood lice coming in either. Your work reminded me I visited Christ Church in Oxford the other week and came across some women making a kneeler, it was huge. I’m going to visit again sometime so will look out for it.
ReplyDeleteThat really is beautiful work. And leaks? We have discovered a very small one in a corner. In a brand new house!!!
