Well, that was a journey and a half yesterday. I went to check the Unit out, but took the "quicker" x-country route, which of course wasn't really quicker as through villages and changes of speed from 50 to 20, and the 50 section was always where it wasn't safe to actually DO 50! I knew it wasn't ideal, position wise, but it is so difficult to get a Unit these days - I have been trying for 2 years now. I had a choice of two, as it happened, but opted for the smaller one, which was slightly cheaper. I will give it 6 months and sdee how it pans out. Now I have to try and sort out some permanent pieces of furniture for display purposes. I have a good bookcase in the stables, and there's a shabby pine boxwhich looks like it might do, plus a painted-white-in-the-60's table which needs a lick of paint. A job for a dry day (this weekend is looking good). I came home via the longer main road, and got myself a new wheelbarrow, as the old one has holes in the bottom and a puncture. This one has a solid tyre. I couldn't run to the two wheels type I liked the look of that RewildingJude has. This was expensive enough!
I had a wander round Carmarthen, mainly to check out a house that Danny wants to buy. I love it and hope it all goes through ok for him.
I took a few photos of Carmarthen castle as I was passing. Sadly the Council built their council offices right in the middle of it . . . I have yet to hear of any Council with a true sense of history . . .

How exciting to have a new unit. Well you be using glass shelving, I have a lot we are parting with. We are outside Carmarthen and Like you, my husband died last year and I am changing the way we trade.

You have my sympathy - Keith and I were together for 44 years and did everything together - so I know how lost you must be feeling. We just have to keep on keeping on. We may well know each other by sight, as we lived in Carms for 32 years.

ReplyDeleteRe the roads of mid and West Wales, I once had a job that involved driving hundreds of miles weekly, to the point where there is hardly a road I've not driven on. I soon found that it was much quicker to use the roads that had a white line down the middle, even if the distance was greater. Usually easier on the gears as well!

DeleteI don’t have a problem with thirty but twenty, very hard to keep to in my car, I have to go down to second or third to do it and who is there to police it,. Not them they have better things to do so dumb saps who think they are going the world a favour have a local speed watch. I watched them down the road in our village, old enough to know better. Rant over. So is you unit in Carmarthen? seem a way to go to it
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't do a car any good to be going down to 20, sometimes for quite a distance through a ribbon-development type village. No, Unit even further away! Will share it later in the year.

ReplyDeleteI was hoping to get to one on my travels yesterday, but ran out of time. That's my diesel expenditure for the week now, so will wait until I go to Malvern next week and get a couple of good ones on the way home.
DeleteExciting times ahead. The pine box sounds like a good display base, as you could hide a bit of 'future stock' in there for when you have days when you arrive and there are a lot of gaps to fill. I hope you have a great time filling your unit.
ReplyDeleteA good idea. I haven't checked it out properly yet, as I concentrated on the display table today. I have a Fair next month, so will have a sort out of what is going where after that. Have a rough idea anyway.

ReplyDeleteWhat's left of it is interesting, but the likes of Kidwelly and the Towy Valley castles - Llansteffan, Dryslwyn, Dynefor and AMAZING Carreg Cennen way better. If you get a chance to visit Carreg Cennen you won't regret it.

Its exciting to have a new project and sorting everything out will keep you busy. Although I'm sure that you like me can always find something to do. Off to find something for tea, fridge scrape probably. Xx
ReplyDeleteAlways busy . . . I could sit and sew all day long, or garden, or read, or Sort Out Stuff! Enjoy your fridge scrape tea:) I am having mince/red onion/mushrooms/courgettes, a little curry powder/rice/Oxo stock with some veg on the side. Enough for 3 meals.

ReplyDeleteOh I was hoping he left a diary or journal that was being translated in a modern way. That's a spectacular castle, imagine how life was back when it was new and state of the art. It's quite huge isn't it, all built by hand. [by starving serfs I suppose...]
DeleteReply for Kathy - sorry you are stuck at home as not a driver. Know what you mean about buses, but I can catch one if I walk into town (just over a mile). Fortunately I drive. You will have seen the oddball things I sell at Fairs!
