There's a monster in the house!

 L. Whale had the vet's again this morning and had his dressing removed - healing nicely - BUT he has to wear a cone to stop him licking the foot, and the others are all terrified of him now, and he is terrified of it . . .  I need to be here to keep the peace . . .  Poor chap.  He has to go back on Thursday and I hope he will be able to have the cone removed then.  It rather scuppers my day out, and going to Patchwork too . . .

Some quick snaps taken yesterday afternoon.  My garden is springing into bloom - and I'm glad I saw the chap who cuts the grass on Saturday as it has sudenly shot up.  The Clematis (Montana rubens) has come into its own this year and looking gorgeous.

Self-seeded Aquilegias.

I need to give my Clematis plants a feed but this had a good feed last year and is rewarding me.  Just need the slugs an snails to leave it alone.  This one is The First Lady.

The lovely yellow Tree Peony which was here when I arrived.

One of the wild Aquilegias which has grown once ancient membrane taken off on the bank.

The colour is pale in this photograph, but this is one of two good patches of Red Campion in the orchard.

All the young trees are in bloom.

Water Avens on the bank - they have spread everywhere.

Last night's meal.  Having had Mince Cobbler two nights in a row - and ruined the cheese scone topping because I got it out of the freezer and left it 36 hours in the fridge, during which time all the flour went grey (!) , I removed last of the topping and reinvented the mince into Cajun Dirty Rice, which hit the spot.  Mushrooms and chopped peppers from the freezer.  There are two more portions, but I will probably freeze those.

I did a quick shop in Llandod yesterday, although before I could do that I had to have a nap on the sofa - 5 mins turned into over an hour, as I was whacked from all the hard work.  I unloaded the last of the things in the car before that and that finished me off.

It was £26 in Aldi, as I bought the cat food in there.  Then the same in Tesco, but I had to go back in as I had forgotten my Wenslydale cheese, and I got some Ancient Grains rolls and mixed salad to go with it.  An other fiver.  The cat food was £11.95 for sachets and £4.50 for Purina biscuits (on special offer).  Meat bought - 2 chicken breasts, Back bacon (haven't bought any this year), and a reduced Pukka steak pie, all from Tesco, which is what bumped the spending in there.  I used the small change from the Fair to pay for the Aldi shop, which helped the exchequer.

I have sold two pieces to D, and need to pack and post those off today.  I need to go and fossick in the stables for the loose polystyrene beads I received around something else and kept to post something breakable.

Tomorrow I have my Patchwork class and later in the week am going to give myself a day out.  I need to take my spinning wheel to be serviced and he lives at Ystradgynlais, down by Craig y Nos, where opera singer Adelina Patti lived.  I shall go on towards Ross-on-Wye and the bottom of Herefordshire to check out some churches.

Meanwhile, L. Whale back to vet today to have his dressing off.  He WILL be pleased.

    1. I have a beautiful garden but know it is going to be a PITA as I get older!

  2. I don't think I have ever seen a cat wearing a cone before, poor Little Whale. It's a shame your planned days out might not happen, but I can imagine the chaos that might ensue if you leave him and the others alone with this new fashion accessory in place.

    1. They don't like it. I managed to get a soft one to fit Ghengis when he needed one, and the girls too had tiny ones. Imagine a donut with a hole in it. This is soft though but he hates it . . .

  3. Poor L. Whale! What do they call it? The Cone of Shame. Why? He's done nothing wrong.
I do love the old fashioned Aquilegia. I have all colours all over my garden.

    1. I have lots of different colour Aquilegias too and this year have some virtually black ones.

No shame for L. Whale, but he hates wearing it.

  4. I bet L.Whale is not happy, its probably very humiliating for him to wear 'The Cone of Shame'. I'm off to WI tonight in my posh frock as we are having a talk on tea etiquette (I've got to take tablecloths) and we are having an evening afternoon tea! Xx

    1. Well, he is purring mightily this morning and can't understand why I won't open the door for him. Oooh, posh frock. I haven't had a Posh Frock day since I worked for Price Waterhouse back in the 1980s!

  5. Poor cat to have to wear that and to be shunned by his friends as well.

    1. Hello and welcome. He's come to terms with wearing it, overnight, but I had to shut him on his own in the living room with a litter tray, food and water. He is currently sat at the back door but is NOT allowed out because of the toe surgery still healing.

  6. You have many of my favourite flowers in your garden. We are in cone hell too. We left it on for the prescribed two weeks but when we saw the local vet she said the wound wasn't healing and gave us a lecture about keeping the cone on. I sensed she thought we were silly old people who couldn't bear to upset their pet. So unfair because we were diligent about it. When we got home there was a message from the surgeon also sternly telling us to keep the cone on, so she snitched on us! Seeing her today, things are looking better, fingers crossed the darn thing can come off.

    1. How horrid not to be believed. Animals heal at different rates. The 2nd dresing on L. Whle's foot slipped so it was beyond the toe it was supposed to be protecting and with all the thumping he did of that foot, there was congealed blood between his pads. At least it is open to the air now and I just have to bathe it twice a day with Hibiscrub, and dry it. Fun on my own! Hope the cone comes off in your house today.

  7. oh no poor baby, I have 4 cats and no doubt they would be just as frustrated as your cat if they had to wear the cone. I hope it comes off on Thursday. Have a great week.

  8. Our little dog managed to almost slip out of the cone. She literally had it half off her head and stuck in her mouth!

    1. The only plantings when I got here were shrubs on the bank and a rose in the one bed. It's so much more colourful now and fills me with joy.
