I have my procedure tomorrow, so that is hanging over me like a ten ton weight, and as bad - possibly worse - is waving my darling daughters goodbye this morning, on their journey to Essex for my b-in-law's funeral. Their journey includes the M25, and I shan't rest until they are back home safe and sound (and Tam has an onward journey in the dark through the mountains to Aberystwyth tomorrow night). My stomach is churning with nerves for them.
I have been keeping busy, making up a fresh guest bed, and bringing down the biggest Deed Box (I need to sell them), to check the contents. Lots of Family History paperwork, 20 or so B/M/D certificates which need to go into my special paperwork box upstairs, the entire Bird Family History tree from Herne Bay in Kent and a few really good old photographs. I discovered (again) that old George Bird, who went off to war aged 72 (he said he was 52!) was only 5ft 3/4 inch, but boy, full of fire and brimstone - you only had to look at him and his piercing blue eyes!
What came home with me yesterday? Very little. A pair of little tables for a conservatory, with Peacocks on. Colourful if nothing else.
A combo set for removing eggs from boiling water and whisking them. French I should think. Different anyway.
A small French enamel lunch box for hot food. The main purpose was a day out and hopefully something desirable coming my way, but no.
I got a dog painting too but that may be a gift, so I shan't share it.
I feel very tired today and think I will settle down with one of my books I found yesterday on the shelves of the Charity bookcase at the Garden Centre.
I had been looking at these on line and debating whether to buy them (I was hoping they would be on Audible, but no). So for my donation, these came home with me.
I have had to do a return on Ebay for the hypoallergenic soft toy stuffing I bought. It looked nothing like the clear and labelled plastic bag which was the illustration on Ebay, instead it came looking rather . . .
in fact, distinctly, pillow-shaped. I contacted the buyer and they told me this was the ticking they used to keep the stuffing clean in transit. Talk about misrepresenting! Especially since they normally sell pillows and duvets . . .
Right, off to read, write or whatever whilst Escape to the Country is on.

Did the sellers name come up as Trotter's Independent Traders? :)
ReplyDeleteI read all of Ellis Peters/Edith Pargetter's books when I was a teenager and I adored them. I wrote her a fan letter and, to my great surprise, she wrote back. I still have the lovely little notecard 40+ years later.
It might well have done! I read them all in my 20s I think, so time to revisit. I loved the Cadfael series on tv too. How lovely to receive a reply to your letter.
DeleteWhat a swiz, trying to sell you a pillow - and an old looking one too. Do hope your daughter's got there and back safely. I've been and topped the Mini up, the car sales place only put £20 in, and there was a queue, obviously people filling up before prices go up/shortages. Take care. Xx
ReplyDeleteOh it was new, but it so happens when you look at the rest of what they sell, it is pillows and duvets! |Not paying £8.95 for an ordinary pillow! No queues when I topped up and I suspect it's shot up since.
DeleteI think that is the Edith Pargeter trilogy that I had once from a library--a bit different than the Cadfael or the Inspector Felse series. Her way with language and history was remarkable.
ReplyDeleteI'm always relieved when traveling family or friends declare themselves safely at their destination or back home.
She writes beautifully and really knew her stuff. I've not read her Inspector Felse series or indeed, wasn't aware of them.
DeleteWell, they have arrived safely but missed the meal they had booked because there was an hour long hold up on the way after an accident. They were nearly there too.
Those books have lovely covers don't they. Gosh, the cheek of them trying to sell you a pillow when you ordered and paid for hypo-allergenic stuffing!!
ReplyDeleteYes - a slight nod to William Morris I think. I think they had a nerve passing off a pillow as 1 kg of soft toy stuffing!!! It's going back, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI hope your procedure has gone okay. Did you go alone? Not sedated? / I had problems w stuffing too---I ordered for the hearts etc I make. "hypoallergenic, soft, and silky". NOT appealing and the bag was about 12" square. W fiberfill they list the weight and it's hard to judge the volume. Very $$$ too. Maybe $14.oo? I expected a huge bag.
ReplyDeleteYes, glad it's behind me. I had to go alone as my girls had gone to my b-in-law's funeral the other side of the country, in Essex. I didn't need to be sedated but gosh, they fill you full of wind so I drove home feeling like the Michelin Man - quite uncomfortable.
DeleteI have gone to Amazon for more . . . reputable? - stuffing now. It is sold by weight here. Hah - mine came by the pillowfull!!! If I was going to buy a pillow for its contents, I can get two for £6, not the £8.75 this one cost.
