The delights of . . .

A glimpse of summer (in NZ).

... a car full of absolute crap to take to the Tip for Tam.  It's the remains of their old fence, taken out by Storm Darragh.  I have an absolute pile of junk to add to it, and have requested the aid of a useful tip worker when I arrive.  I will load up my pile of junk tomorrow - unless the forecast is heavy rain, in which case it's best to load it today whilst it's dry.  Wednesday is the earliest I can take it (unless I book in at Brecon, which is a 40 mile round trip, so Wednesday and so Llandod it is).  With the cost of fuel so high, I have to stay close to home.

I was awake at 5.45 this morning and got up.  Now of course, I am feeling tired (4 1/2 hrs later).  I have just been round the kitchen, utility and hall and lower stairs with the vacuum cleaner and my back is now complaining.  Before I rest though I want to get seeds sown in seed trays and put on the south-facing wide windowsill in my sewing room.  One of the things that gets me feeling low this time of year, is jobs not done. I am SO FED UP with constant grey skies day after day - it's as bad as rain.

Chicken pie tonight I think.  Update: couldn't be bothered to make the pastry so I had a chicken risotto instead.

I have not an iota of energy - I used up the last I had going up the track to bring the wheelie bin back.  But my fault entirely as I have just snacked today and not had a proper meal and very little protein.  Since Keith died, I find it very hard to plan meals, let alone enjoy eating them and my portion size has shrunk so I normally just have a bowl and not a dinner plate.

Positives for the day:

Heard back from my bowel screening that nothing was amiss.

Car all loaded ready to go to the Tip. I will be SO glad to get it emptied and the back of the car scrubbed down.  The wet wood makes it smell very fousty.

Recycling done and dusted for another week.

  1. I'd love some wide windowsills!
At present my kitchen bench for seed sowing is full of pots 😄

    1. I just have one - the other south-facing one is too narrow for seed trays. I need to harden my heart and take the Victorian jug and basin set off and to the charity shop. They no longer sell and this has an ancient crack on the bowl.

    2. I requested them for the new house especially after seeing them across the pond!

    3. I don't blame you Debby. Nice to have a bespoke windowsill.

  2. We've been backwards and forwards to our tip and the recycling centre so often since we bought the bungalow, Alan is getting to know the chaps that work there. We went to the scrap metal recycling place the other day, that was much more profitable than the tip for sure. :-)

    1. I don't doubt you have. Do you have to pay a premium for getting rid of house "DIY" stuff, rubble and the like?

    2. Not if it's just a car load of 'normal' stuff. All the rubble etc has gone in the two skips that we had to get.

    3. Ah I see. My gardener was asked to do a hedge cut job but the woman wanted the cuttings removed too and he said he couldn't do it as the Council wanted £200 a year for anything like that on a regular basis.

  3. No Baby C or Iris today as she is poorly with a cold. We are still going to have jacket spuds for tea anyway. Went and got some seed compost on Saturday and hoping to get my cosmos and verbena on the go. They are two of my favourite flowers. Just watching the end of the Gardener's World programme, it makes me itch to get going, but our soil is still wet and claggy. Good luck with the tip run. Take care. Xx

    1. I am glad they didn't have to come to you anyway and pass the cold on. I need to get my Cosmos started too. Tomorrow is another day . . .

  4. I think that we will be making a trip to our cities as we call it "dump" very soon. Lots of items from the basement need to be tossed.

    God bless.

  5. I was still wide awake at 4:30, panicking by 5:30, and somehow snatched a couple hours before my carer came, thankfully late! I miss my runs to the tip with both my dad and my friend Mary {who died last year} I'm also struggling with eating regular meals, and shrinking portion sizes.

    1. Oh I hate nights like that. I am nearly always like that the night before a Fair - or the moment I have had to set an alarm! I have to be out of the house for 9 in the morning, so will set the alarm for 7 just in case. . . I haven't been eating well since I had that laryngitis which morphed into a cold cum sinus problems - nothing tasted the same. It's better now and I can just about face cooked tomatoes but the appetite has gone.
