I've never had one arrive so early before. SO delighted to see it.
What a difference a day makes. We woke to sunshine and it has been such a lovely spring day here. Alfie was keen to go out first thing, but just had a drink from the rainwater bucket and sat in the sun. I had some breakfast and then went out to do a quick and frugal shop. I did, however, really want to get a replacement Blackcurrant bush for the one which never really grew an inch where it was planted (I may try and plant it elsewhere, in hope). This one has lots of manure at its roots, and is tucked in with the good seaweed compost which is making my Garlic grow like weeds. I also spotted a lovely Aubretia - two colours in one pot - so why not? I kept the food shopping very low to allow the £12 for these. I am going to be working my way through the freezer now.
We had a BIG train in at Llandod Station when I was parking in Aldi, so I quickly took a photo. I imagine it costs an arm and a leg to travel on this beauty - 7 carriages and an engine, fine dining and luxury accommodation (it's a sleeper). Our Heart of Wales trains have just one carriage!! Occasionally two. Aldi have their very cheap veg offer (Tesco is 15p but Aldi is 8p or even 4p). I got carrots, 2 x onions, potatoes, and garlic x 3.
A little dappled shade when it got warmer :)
I'm hoping this Blackcurrant will fruit well here.
My moorland view as I gardened on the bank today.
I bought a reduced stir fry pack in Aldi today, and two chicken breasts. One has gone to make the stir fry meal which will last me two days. I cooked up the portion of mince I thawed yesterday and that will make several helpings of Mince Cobbler. I bought a good pack of mixed frozen berries from Aldi to replace the one I used for the jam last week. May turn this into jam too.
Just a few of the hundreds of Primroses which bloom here in the spring. The house should have been called Primrose Cottage.
Thank you for all your comments yesterday. I will just reply to you all and say thank you, or I will be saying the same thing over and over.

I'll have to keep an eye out for our Martins and Swallows now that yours have arrived!
ReplyDeleteThis one obviously found a good wind to help it on its way.
DeleteI planted a Peony corm (?) today which was in a horrible plastic bag with a tiny bit of soil. The little bit that's growing looks healthy, so I planted it out with a handful of chicken manure pellets and have put an old wire hanging basket over the top to stop Sheva digging it up. I love primroses, they always look like such happy little plants. Xx
ReplyDeleteI know the packaging you mean. It's a wonder they survive, but once in the ground, and well cared for, it will grow. The chicken manure will make all the difference.
DeleteI have yet to see a robin, though the snow geese passed overhead yesterday.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We have Robins year round, but ours are a little different to yours and a very common UK species. I had three Canada geese fly over, probably heading for the Wye river below us.
DeleteI bought two concord grape vines today. I am very excited to get them planted. It was sunny here today, and warm enough that I wasable to head out for a haircut without a coat. On the way home, i was amazed at how green things are turning. You are right. What a difference a day makes.
ReplyDeleteGlad Alfie is doing better today.
I didn't need my jacket either. Today we are back to 8 deg :( It was lovely to see a green haze on some of the roadside trees as I drove to Llandod and back.
DeleteWe had masses of wild primroses growing in the ditches on our farm when I was a child. Nothing like that where I currently live. Now I can only get highly coloured cultivated primulas from a greenhouse grower.
ReplyDeleteCultivated primulas are pretty, and I have some here. The bees have gone from Primula to Primrose so I have some pale pink Primroses now.
DeleteMuch too chilly here for Swallows although I've never seen any in the village at all, there will be Swifts later.
ReplyDeletePear blossom on the way on my little tree but apple way behind which is probably a good thing.
What a shame no houses support Swallows, though it is a good barn they really want. They are in my middle stable bit, which probably was once either the tack and/or feed room.
DeleteThat train isn't expensive . . . it's freaking stratospheric!!! A three day trip through Wales starts out at a mere £9,200 per person for a twin berth cabin. As it's April 1st I'm proceeding with caution on this. If we're going, best put our houses on the market now!
ReplyDeleteEarly Swallow and early fruit blossom, you’re ahead of us in Devon 😊
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Doesn't a little bit of sunshine and blue sky make everything seem better for us ... and obviously for cats too. I'm glad Alfie is on the mend.
