. . . and then the car caught fire!

 Not my car (thank heavens, with the Antiques Fair this weekend), but my son Danny's.  He has had nothing but trouble with it from the moment he bought it - meant to have been regularly serviced, but turns out it had never been touched!  He ended up spending hundreds and hundreds on replacement engine parts - especially on the new Turbo it needed.  Anyway, he phoned me up yesterday to tell me it had caught fire - he'd taken a pile of E's business towels to the laundry and left them in the back of the car.  (They get oily because of the oil she uses in her massage therapies).  He didn't take them out straight away as he was so busy, and said that after such a hot day, he opened the car door and whoosh, the towels burst into flames and then everything was on fire and the interior melted with the ferocity of it.  He had to get the Fire Brigade out and now of course, is in negotiations with the Insurance company.  Meanwhile, he HAS to have a car so I have offered to loan him a chunk to buy a servicable replacement (there you go, last day of April and money STILL in freefall from my accounts).  I told him, at least he wasn't driving along when that happened, and nobody's hurt.  

Another very hot  (23 deg C = 73 deg F) day here.  I need to water round in a moment, as stuff in pots will need it.  I have a new helper courtesy of my new neighbour, and got Sam to move the two sacks of FYM for me today, round to the beanpatch in the bottom triangle.  

I've sat outside a couple of times at my new table and chairs, reading and having lunch, and later just some water and an apple, wearing a big straw hat to keep the sun from burning my neck.  I did some food shopping first thing as I won't get a chance over the weekend and the girls will tell me my fridge is empty!  I had to get vegan butter and yoghurt for the Vegan Lemon Drizzle cake I'm making next week, and was low on cat food too.

I have worked hard on the wallpapering, which seems to take forever to do, and as I had to empty a lot of fabric from one of my wooden chests in order to move it, I went through and have made a big pile to sell at the Fair.  Not quite the Swedish Death clearance on fabrics, but a start has been made!

Here are the proto blocks for the other Heirloom quilt (now abandoned) and with edging, being made into cushion covers.  I will get back to them next week.

As you can see, still very much a work in progress, and with non-matching slept-in bedding on and an old woollen blanket for cats.  Pretty curtains, and I have the other one hung now.  That was taken about 7 p.m. so the light levels had dropped and the green looks darker and the wallpaper pattern doesn't show up.  I'll take other ones when it's completely finished.

Right, still lots of things to do apart from watering round. I did a late wash and so that may still be a little damp and need hanging up, and I have the dry washing to take down first.  Then there's a cake to ice and washing up to do, fabric to measure and price up and all I want to do is sit down with my book.
