I really didn't want to get up when the alarm(s) went off this morning. I think I really did need more sleep, as by the time I had driven partly in near darkness and then driving into the rising sun, I found if I leaned forward when I was at the Fair, my head was a bit dizzy. I wasn't excited before going, on the way, or once there. This is unusual. Anyway, I saw old friends and had a lovely chat with some dealers I'd not met before, and when I got back to the car, the chap in the next car and I had a good chat too. The day was not wasted.
I ended up with less money to spend as I was lucky enough to find Rosie's Christmas present.
I had planned to buy her a Doll's House. I didn't plan on buying her a Mansion house, but hey-ho. I really loved this and it came complete with a big box of house contents. This hit the exchequer with a big bite, but the Christmas present buying is going well and I hope to be done and dusted with it by the end of October latest. Looking up dolls houses on Ebay and Etsy, some of them are big prices in the hundreds. The scale models of Georgian dollshouses especially. One Oxford House kit was £650!! I always remember a wonderful dollshouse shop in Bath, which sold tiny pineapples, bowls of fruit, copper cookware, chandaliers. Ooh I was a child again!
These stunning German pieces were on the North & South Vintage stall and I had a lovely chat with the owners. Very special designs these.

I am so glad that tonight's meal is leftovers from last night. All I want to do is sit down and do nothing now. Think I will take a Panadol and see if that will ease my head, which is a bit tight from all the concentration today.
Coming home, I passed lots of bikers going home in the opposite direction. There has been the usual Bank Holiday biker fest on the showground and they had it wet in their tents, poor souls. I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Tomorrow is September. I am SO glad Autumn has arrived.

We through my wife’s dolls house in the skip years ago, no doubt it could be sold now. That is one ugly dog in the photos you took, wonder if it sold, dom one would have it. The rain is most welcome, just want more
ReplyDeleteOh what a shame. I'm sure a charity shop would have appreciated that. I think the dog is a bit of a parody of a French bulldog. Paper mache I think. One which will wait a while for a new owner!

ReplyDeleteLooking on Ebay, there are dozens! I had thought of one less than half the size of this but it ended up coming back with me. I did wonder for a while whether I should sell it at the Fair this week and get that smaller one as it would fit here better, but what the heck!
DeleteYes, it is good to chat. Just taking the dollshouse back to the car prompted conversations :) At my friend Si's stand, he got me a chair and we could chat properly. I always take a bit of baking for my mates there and it is gratefully received. Apple Gingerbread Muffins this time.
Rosie will love playing with that doll's house. Will you find a box big enough for it or just wrap a ribbon round. Baby will be 1 in November so I'm thinking a garage as he seems to love cars. Will post your article this week when I've hunted out the envelopes which I've stashed away somewhere! Hope your head feels better soon. Xx

DeleteHead has cleared this morning but my body is complaining about the trudging round pulling heavy things over the grass! At least I burned a few calories. Look forward to your envelope.
That shop in Bath is probably the same one I visited in the 80's. I bought a framed sampler and a kitchen knife, and still have both among my collection of miniatures.
ReplyDeleteI should think it is. I haven't been there for many a long year so it is probably no longer in existence now. I can still see the wonderful VIctorian jellies and trifles in my mind's eye! Oh gosh, a teensy knife! Well done for not losing it. How on earth did they do the framed sampler? I assume that it was printed?

DeleteNO renovations for the dollshouse bar putting on a door and a window back in place and I have those. Thinking about making little curtains but probably plain fabric as have no print that small.
Lack of sleep and possibly didn't drink enough water the day before. Resting - and drinking lots of water - today.
I'm thinking the doll's house will be of interest to Rosie over quite a few years--inspiration for all sorts of imaginative stories and hours of puttering and rearranging. I once knew a grown-up woman whose hobby was building and furnishing doll's houses.
ReplyDeleteYes, I could probably have left it until she was 5 but she loves playing with the farm set with its stables and animals, so think she will love this too. What a lovely job, to make and furnish dolls houses - you would always be a child in your mind!

ReplyDeleteMy daughters are 54 and 49 and when they were about 10 and 5 we were on holiday in Perth ( we were farmers approx 450 km from Perth at the time) I took them to the Dolls House museum, it was delightful with about 150 dolls houses and lots of other things. My son who was 8 was not so impressed until we got to the top floor and there in all it's glory was the most magnificent train set with lots of tracks and lots of trains going around and they were each allowed to have a go at operating it. ReplyDeleteShe will love it, although it will take up a big chunk of my living room! I will have to try and empty a space in the Library. If Tam took her Laura Ashley armchair and bamboo table, and I could sell the bergere seat Smoker's Bow I have in there - we could fit it by the window.
DeleteIt's a good Fair, yesterday not as busy as most August Bank Holidays are, but still plenty of stalls to look round.
