Builth - part 2

I hope you all like the New Header.  I think it should have a title - How Green is my Valley.  I did take a little artistic licence and use the gizmo which brightens up the colours, but it was a dull day and with the sun on them, those colours wouldn't be far out.  I'll do a river walk photo posting tomorrow.

I am not usually drawn to paintings of Industrial England, but this was SO good - the light and reflections in the puddles, the yellow light in the windows, the grey on grey.  Quite a powerful painting.

Pretty cushions (all new of course).  I especially like the Pansies and Violets.

A touch of the Drew Pritchards here!

A lovely early 18th C table, with fabulous patina on the top, but Ireckon that will go home with the dealer, nice as it is.  Fashions have changed so much in recent years.

This lovely old chair has been hand stripped - having had several layers of paint (top layer red I think!)  It could have done with some beeswax polish on to bring it up a bit- though perhaps they just wanted a limed finish.

On the same stall, a lovely old Welsh spoonrack with a bevy of spoons adorning it.

From the stand where we bought my costrel, some more delightful things to tempt you to part with your money.  This and the next four photos.

Isn't this beautiful?

Some horn and sycamore spoons amongst the treen.

We'd have had this if it had been cheaper (£700!)  An absolutely adorable primitive child's chair.  Not that there are any primitive children in our house these days . . .

You may be able to read the price tag for this beautiful love token dated 1845.  I think it is £245 . . .

Does what it says on the label.  Some stunning glass from the Isle of Wight studio.  Just LOOK at that fabulous lamp base.

Well, this has taken me all day, on and off, to load.  The internet is SO slow, but only the thought of having to ring India is putting me off doing anything about it.  BT - I pay good money for this and it takes 20 minutes to load a photo?  No wonder businesses struggle so much in the countryside . . .

  1. I don't think BT customer service is in India as my SIL works for them and he travels every day .
    Love those cushions x

    1. Hi Christine and thankyou for that info. In which case I may try phoning them as the broadband is ridiculous now.

Aren't those cushions gorgeous? I thought having something that pretty would be a cat magnet though!

  2. Now we have fibre connection here - at a price but no option - I can load photos in a flash - it's brilliant.
I now NEED a welsh spoon! and The IOW lamp base is lovely except I can't be doing with blue and brown together - makes me cringe.

    2. It does look brown doesn't it? Yet I don't remember it being brown - more silver - but my memory is totally cooked today!

    3. How I wish we had a fibre connection. I am last on the phone line, it ends with us and starts as a Carmarthen prefix over the hill, so I am a loooong way from the exchange.

I could always find you a Welsh spoon you know!

  3. I love the treen and furniture, primitive is my favourite. I also treasure an Isle of Wight vase my late brother gave me many years ago - lovely to see the display.

    1. Hello. I thought some of these things might be up your street. Our specialist old buildings builder is an Isle of Wight lad, and used to work alongside Michael Harris at his glassworks. He said the best fun was at the end of the day when they had left over "blows" and could make what they fancied. We love primitive stuff too.

  4. Love the new header, it is so green and beautiful. I absolutely agree that that artwork is just so simple and beautiful and very clever. Can't believe the prices on some of those items!

    1. Hi Suzie, just couldn't resist that photo for the header, though I took lots of decent photos today that would have been fine. Ah yes, the prices! The treen company had been in business since the 1950s and had people bringing stuff to them, very rare things, and I guess rare is always expensive!

  5. I would have bought the gingerbread mould and the love token in a heartbeat if money were no object. Just love this type of treen.
