Back to the more mundane now. I was just coming back from the Chiropractor's (more of that anon) and met the Farmer from up the hill - well, one of the 3. With great delight he told me that the Reservoir was nearly empty and the farmer would have to get a digger in because the water pipes were obviously full of tree roots again, and because he was now on his own bore hole, it was going to cost us a LOT of money to put right. . . NOT the news I wanted to hear. Have spoken to new neighbour and asked him to speak to next door about it, and tell him that he will have to share the cost this time. Since this particular farmer is given to making things sound dire when possibly they are not so bad, it's hard to know quite what the situation is. We shall see. Meanwhile, I shall save every drop. I'm always careful anyway.
I did this drawing last night (a copy of one I used as a border on an essay submission more than 25 years ago.) It was for a thank you card for G & M, for all the help they have given me. They fly home tomorrow.
I unpicked the flowers, and finished sewing the front of the Mrs Cat's dress last night. Those are balls of wool and knitting needles in the little bag. I am really enjoying making this. Her head next. Needs features and tabby stripes.
We have 'catastrophiers' here as well. Tim has discovered 'reels' on you tube, the hysterical ones who put the most dire spin on current events. He gets upset over them. I keep trying to explain that he needs to cross reference things because some of these people are spouting things jut every bit outlandish as some of the Qanon stuff. What joy do you think these people get from their dramatics? As for the neighbor who won't pay his share, it sounds harsh but can his water be cut? It certainly seems unfair that he benefits from something he refuses to share in the upkeep of.
ReplyDeleteAs someone who has fallen into "click bait" traps on occasion (the latest one is comet 31/Atlas - apparently an alien spaceship which could possibly make getting home from NZ a tad difficult for me if it decides to come visit. . .), I can sympathise what it's like to have dramatic news: NASA is lieing! Plan your vacation before 27 October! It must be hard work with your husband believing stuff he sees on the You Tube reels. I would rather believe Brian Cox - it's a comet . . .
DeleteAs for the neighbour, he's the middle one of us three dwellings, so can't cut him off, but farmer K could get a bit hyperactive over the bill . . .
I do right arm over left when crossing my arms!
ReplyDeleteI’ll reverse it to give my brain a nudge - I like the sound of these little nudges.
I’ve gone back to doing the Radio Times Enigma crossword recently.
I think the nudges are good ideas, as we really do get into the same mode of doing things, living by habit. I don't take the Radio TImes. Need to get a new Puzzler puzzle book though - lots of different ones in there to challenge my grey matter.
DeleteOne reason I'm learning Welsh is to make my brain work. I'm not a languages person, maths yes but languages no. And Welsh has got to be one of the hardest ones to learn. Any chance you could sink your own bore hole? In Devon we began with water piped from a muddy well in a cattle field up on the hill but ended up putting in our own bore hole. Expensive but worth it.
