Thank heavens for Tam being here to sort out all the flight side of things, and the apps to go on my phone - and that side flung me into a full sudden stomach-lurching panic attack. I felt just as I did when Keith was so desperately ill and I had to deal with him on my own because D wasn't here. I am NOT good with technology and have only regularly used a mobile phone for a couple of years. I still have L plates up and the girls despair of me! I have had another tutorial and think I should be able to sort myself with it now . . . If not, I shall ask for help!
Rosie wanted to make a camp for herself last night and kept pointing at cushions and saying One. Earlier in the day she was taking cushions off the kitchen chairs and counting, and can now count to three!! That means she already has an idea of the concept of counting and how many, that being pretty early in development. Sometimes a child is four before making the connection. She learns new words every day and has said several short sentences, which is pretty amazing.
Today I will be packing. We will go out for a walk as it's a lovely sunny day, and Gabby is arriving late afternoon with tomorrow's venison steaks. We will have those with veg and Dauphinoise potatoes.
I think this is a Liquidamber tree, down on the Groe. It is SO beautiful and the leaves at the top are dark maroon.

A lovely old Riley in the car park at Aldi in Llandod. Walnut dashboard, leather seats. I was talking to an old chap, also admiring it, and he said it drove like a sports car and some folk used to put a new body on it so it looked the part!
Right, off to consult my packing list . . . .

ReplyDeleteThis app business is a big reason that I'm avoiding travelling.......there must be folk that still don't own a mobile phone, what do they do? I'm glad you've got loving family that are helping you with it, when you are in NZ having a great time it'll all be worth it.

Yes, she is just learning things in leaps and bounds. I get in a panic over technology (always have, going back to my school days and the Language Laboratory where we could listen to French on a tape, and repeat it. There were three controls - forwards, backwards and stop - oh and Jen's PANIC!!!

Never be afraid to ask for help with technology, most people will be pleased to be able to help you, whether it's airport staff or just fellow travellers. Things change so rapidly these days systems can be completely different from one holiday to the next. Rosie is doing amazingly well, she is going to be so far ahead once she starts school.

Oh I probably shall - happy to ask anyone younger than me!! She is indeed going to be a long way ahead at school. I can remember my dad saying he was really bored at school (he went to the Grammar school in Newton Abbot) so I hoe Rosie won't be the same.
DeleteI printed off all my tickets when I recently travelled by train across many European cities. I did have them on my app but I thought it better to be safe than sorry. I totally sympathise on what it's like to travel on your own having been a widower myself for over 13 years. But I find that once on the go the fears and qualms disappear. And do ask for help if you're stuck. People really do like to help. Bon voyage!

We have friends who don't have a computer and only the most basic phone, I don't know how they manage. I'm a technophobe too, OH is pretty good and if he can't sort it, daughter is on hand. Iris is very bright, her reading age is 12, she's 9. Her parent's evening was very good and her teacher's all say what a kind girl she is, won't put up with anyone bullying another child. Our views across The Chevin are beautiful, all russetts and golds, and I still have lots of flowers going in the garden. Xx

ReplyDeleteWith technology, starting w learning to do eBay years ago, I'd be very panicked then tell myself, "Look, millions of other people do this, they're no smarter than me. If they can do this, I can do this." Oddly it still works. Soon Rosie will be teaching you about newest tech, my son esp mastered computers starting in preschool. As for being bored, Let's hope modern schools no longer teach to the slowest student, oh how bored I was, and reprimanded for reading ahead or drawing.
You can handle anything! And have the very best time in beautiful NZ.
