Another vet's bill . . .

This time, L. Whale again.  A sliver of his stripped claw has regrown and is piercing the pad again.  The vet tried to get to it to see if it would slide out, but no.  I have two weeks of antibiotics for L. Whale.  Whilst I am away, friend Pam will have to be trying to get them down him. Since he is being SO picky about food, I have bought a small pack of Whiskas poultry in jelly for them all and see if they are back on THAT again, at least he would be eating then as he is going round the other cat's bowls at the moment.

However, it looks like he may have to have that toe amputated - which will be another £420.  Do they think I am made of money?  I don't want to have the old boys put down when it is relatively minor problems, but I can't go on much longer with forking out my month's pension in short order for these treatments.  They know people love their animals so much and have you over a barrel.

She has cleaned the pad up and he hasn't got a dressing on it (this is a photo from February, when he had his last op).  If I had known that all these expenses were going to kick off, I wouldn't have booked Copenhagen, which is my holiday for this year.  Too late to back out now.

So, heaving big sighs here . . .

  1. Oh dear, we don't want them to suffer but we suffer financially. I have just forked out £53 for flea and worm treatments. Is there another vets in the area for you to get a quote for his toe amputation. I do put a regular amount aside for vets bills, so it doesn't come as such a nasty shock. Hoping to get to a garden centre tomorrow, I need plants! Xx

    1. I would say, don't do flea treatment monthly as they try to advise, as it is SO toxic. Treat the house instead. No other local vet - others are quite a drive away - this is 5 mins down the road so less stressful for the cats.

Hope you got some nice plants.

  2. Poor LW, must be painful.
Are you going away soon? Is that the Copenhagen trip? Solo? Did you get cancellation insurance when you booked it?
I found the book we discussed in previous post. At a used book site via Amazon. But must, after Mo's enormous vet bills, curb any expenditure so for now it's just in my cart.. Because really, no one cares why I make quilts, right. As for current quilt, Boardwalk, it took a giant hit today when I finally measured it on my bed and the blocks are far too big. Wasted time. And very dull.

Your doll cradle is so elongated and odd, true folk art. I have a china head doll who would fit but she is a lady, not suited to a cradle. Your little quilt and pillow are lovely.

    1. Copenhagen is with Gabby. She's dealt with booking it so I don't know if the cancellation insurance is included? I bet Mo's vet's bills were blistering. At least you have marked the book for the future, sometime. Shame about the Boardwalk quilt.

I will let someone else find a suitable doll for the crib I think! I will finish the hand-quilting whilst watching the racing this afternoon.

      L. Whale won't have the meds . . .

  3. Pets can have expensive vet bills, that is for sure. I had my 14 year old dog's teeth cleaned and 4 teeth pulled. Don't even think about the cost of that! Enjoy your Copenhagen trip.

    1. Yes, they know how to charge don't they? I can't even think about Copenhagen yet - I will once I'm on the plane.

    1. Well, he won't take the antibiotics (why couldn't she give him a long-lasting a-b injection, like they've had in the past?) so it's going to be the op . . .

  5. We are both in elderly cat medical bill territory at the moment aren't we, and it's so hard to know what to do for the best isn't it. Alan thinks life at any cost, I think only if they are enjoying it in some meaningful way.

  6. This is a bit of a sharp claw. Not life-threatening, but uncomfortable. With Alfie, I only had the bloods done to check on his kidneys (they seem to be not too bad at all) and then with broken teefs, they had to be removed.
