I had a lovely day at Tam's yesterday. I looked after Rosie whilst she painted another wall in Rosie's bedroom-to-be, and I did masses and masses of washing up, and a few other little helpful jobs. Then Jon had to take an over-tired Rosie out for a run in the car to get her off to sleep, and we met up with him in nearby woodlands, where there were level walks and bluebells. It was lovely.
Marsh Kingcups, aka Mollyblobs, as Weaver of Grass used to call them and I do in her memory.
The shallow root base of a coniferous tree, brought down in one of the storms in the past year (Darragh I would think). We passed another one with a root base twice this size!
We practiced skimming stones, and then Jon gave us a competition where we had to chuck a stone up and it was meant to get an inverted splash - a sort of clunk noise. He was best at that!
Rosie: "Ready, steady, GO!" She and Tam paddled too. It was so lovely there, and I didn't want to leave, but had to get back as it was nearly 5 p.m. and an hour and a half's drive home.
I spent the evening working on the Victorian quilt and first thing this morning, when it was still a bit too chilly to garden, I sewed some more and made good progress.
In the greenhouse, I have moved the few runner beans (SCarlet Emporor) which grew, and the trays of Cosmos, to the seed stack to start hardening off. Now I have Cucumbers, Squashes etc to get sown.
My "old" strawberries are now outside, covered in flowers, and the half a dozen I bought on Friday have doubled in size.
Right, back to the garden.

We have been away in Bude for a week, but came back to find our tomatoes are like triffids and my black eyed susan is already flowering, although they are still inside. But I had sad news today as my best friend of 68 years, Lizz passed away this morning. Not unexpected, she had put up a good fight for a year. But I shall miss her so much, she is the last one left who had remembered me as a small child, as we met aged 5 in Infant's School. Take care. Xx
ReplyDeletePlants grow like weeds when you aren't there to tell them to behave! I am SO sorry to hear that your best friend Lizz had died. My best friend Trish died in 2016, and we had been best friends since we were 5 in Infants' School too. . . I still find myself going to ring her number, but no phones in heaven . . . Sending (((HUGS)))
DeleteI am glad you had such a lovely day yesterday. The walk through the bluebell woods looks wonderful. My son has started on his vegetable growing too. You cannot beat homegrown vegetables :)
ReplyDeleteIt was very special. It was a lovely walk, so peaceful. I am the veg grower her, but have some to start off for Tam too. She only has a tiny bit of their small back garden in which to grow anything in. I agree with you, homegrown tastes SO good - nothing else is as fresh.
