I did my walk early this morning , setting off 7.45 but should have gone out at 7 as it was starting to get quite hot when I was out, although I did have tree shade for 3/4 of the route.
The world and his wife are cutting hay. The nearest farm has done several enormous fields (they have cattle and sheep to feed over the winter).
It's 22 deg downstairs and 25 in my bedroom, which faces North. Humidity 76% which does my asthma no good whatsoever. I have bought my sewing machine downstairs and will start cutting out the 2 1/2" pink strips I've just bought from Ebay, into 2 1/2" squares to make a start on the Irish Chain quilt I am making Danny and Emma as a housewarming gift.
I've just bought down my small cutting board and the fabrics, which aren't the best quality (not Moda, that's for sure) but will look good with the white fabric I'm awaiting delivery of. I was hoping to combine a trip to the Hereford Racecourse Antiques Fair with a visit to Doughty's, the patchwork shop, but it's Sunday, not Saturday. Ah well, I will combine the trip with a visit to the Car Boot Sale at Madley instead, and still go to Doughty's another day, as my patchwork group trip to the huge Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham, has been cancelled as it costs so much to rent even just a 12 seater coach. That would have been £40+ a head just for that, and then £22.20 to get in, plus a leetle spending money, would have been one heck of an expensive day out! At least I can go to the Malvern Quilt Festival in the Autumn - I didn't go to the Spring one because I thought I would save my money for the NEC trip . . .
I am sat here with the windows wide open in the kitchen, listening to birdsong and planning my afternoon. I don't need to cook as I made myself a four portion pizza last night. Dough made up in breadmaker (45 mins cycle), then the last portion of some tomato, onion, mushroom, and courgette sauce from a pasta dish last week, with some extra fresh courgette fried up and added. I had some ham left over from the pack for my lunch rolls on Sunday, so I tore that into strips. Then used the last piece of Cheddar which needed using up to top it. I will heat a slice up tonight and have frozen the other two portions. I far prefer my home made ones to the boughten sort.
It really hit the spot and was such a cheap dish to make.
If you are thinking, what did I buy at Malvern? Not a huge amount, a Beswick Deco vase in the right colourway, a metal Scottie dog, a painted stool to display things on and a funny little "seat on wheels", once upholstered, and probably the base of an early child's toy pram. It had a look . . . Lots I should like to have bought, but they were already High Street retail prices.
Oh and a little foal which could be Sylvac but I think is a copy as not the detail and not stamped.
One last field waiting to be turned and then baled this afternoon. Right, let's hope I can do some cutting without involving my fingers getting in the way!

A very productive day. You did well to get out on the lovely walk, the countryside looks beautiful. I'm afraid I didn't make my walk today as , although I am usually up around 5.30am (ish) and fully intended to go early, i overslept and by the time I had my compulsory mug of tea it was already too hot even in the shade. Love the Scottie dog, I have a soft spot for them.
ReplyDeleteI'll go out earlier tomorrow. You obviously needed the extra sleep. Tomorrow is another day. The Scottie was sat on the grass and I didn't notice that on a level floor, it doesn't sit down properly! Ah well . . .
DeleteMy garden thermometer was showing 100 degrees at lunchtime, just TOO HOT! Its really making my hayfever worse, I've tried changing tablets to see if that helps, but its not really. The little horse does look like Sylvac, shame its not marked. Iris's sports day has been cancelled and Baby C is very grumpy, he's not sleeping well, so consequently nobody else is either. Stay cool. Xx
ReplyDeleteGood gracious! I don't have an outdoor thermometer, but the forecast said it was 33 here today. Felt like it! 31 tomorrow and 34 Thursday. Then cooler at the weekend again, thank heavens.
DeleteI'm not surprised that Iris's sports day has been cancelled, and poor Baby C - you can't explain to them the heat isn't for long. Gabby gave me a good idea - cooler blocks wrapped in a towel on your wrists at night . . . Rosie's just sleeping in her nappy.
It’s over 35 degrees in our garden at the moment, we just stay in the kitchen or the cooler part of the house. We have fans running in the bedroom overnight as well. The poor fog goes not know what to do with herself, mind you I don’t either
ReplyDeleteLike you, the kitchen is cooler - though probably the Library is the coolest room as gloomy and at the back of the house (next to Kitchen) . I will have to check the bat-infested attic to see if we still have a fan up there . . .
DeleteGosh I haven't quilted in years, I once made one for my daughter and she had it well over 10 years until it fell apart. Your pizza looks really yummy though, well done, have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteI am cutting this very accurately and piecing accurately (so far!) and I think it will look nice with the plain white blocks inbetween. My quilting career started with a hand-pieced Hexagon quilt which became the "poorly quilt" for when the children were home sick, on the sofa.
DeleteThe piece of pizza for tonight's tea went down well.
I agree it is far too hot. It is about 29 degrees in our bedroom which faces south even though the curtains are kept closed all day :( I must admit I don't like this weather at all. I have spent most of the day sat by a fan! All the meals we have been having have been salads - luckily I have a lot of different salad recipes!!!! Stay cool if you can.
ReplyDeleteMine faces North, but I have had to shut the window to keep the bats out (and have just let another one out on the landing). Must go in search of my fan tomorrow. Had salad for lunch and will get some cold meat for salad tomorrow too.
DeleteIt's probably 25 deg in there still - too hot and stuffy to sleep, so I am on the sofa tonight.
DeleteI so wish you could send me some sun, and heat. We are in for another week of rain and thunderstorms.
ReplyDeleteI like that foal and Scotty dog.
God bless.
We have an excess of sun and we are not used to it! Lurking inside this week.
DeleteThe second cutting of hay on our field happened last week-- some of the Beachy neighbors take care of it. The thinnest cutting we've ever had--probably because of the very dry month.
ReplyDeleteWe've had several brisk showers this week so hopefully the garden will get going again without watering. Last month's water bill was daunting.
I walk through the big downstairs room and glance wistfully at my sewing machines--there hasn't been time or energy to work there in weeks.
Yes, if not much rain, then the aftermath cut will be a bit sparse. Better than nothing though, especially in a bad winter.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the middle of another heatwave. Will be 30 deg or so today, and 34 tomorrow. 100% humidity. Does me no good because of my asthma. Had my walk before 7 a.m. today.
I hope you can get back to your sewing room soon. My sewing room is now the kitchen table!
I like that lookalike jade foal trotting merrily on its way. Outings are so expensive nowadays and they can be exhausting as well.
ReplyDeleteIt has a jaunty air about it. Yes, that visit to the Quilt Festival would have quickly hit 3 figures! Exhausting too, as there are acres of quilts and vendors' stalls with tempting goodies.
ReplyDeleteI’m writing this with the fan going having had salad for lunch 4 days in a row 😀
ReplyDeleteThe pizza looks delicious , I always make the dough for pizza in the bread machine too.
