Busy . . .

I'm afraid I am trying to keep my nose to the grindstone here with all the preparation for putting this house on the market. If I'm not painting, I'm gardening, if I'm not gardening, I'm going through boxes and sorting out stuff for eBay, charity shop, car boot or dustbin. You will have to bear with me, as it will get worse before it gets better.

Our middle daughter returns from Uni today and will be working flat out on her Dissertation. Still, she should get quite a bit of reading done on the train journey down from Durham which lasts from 9 a.m. till just before 5 p.m.! I've got a huge leg of lamb out of the freezer and made chocolate cupcakes yesterday which I will ice today.

The rain it still raineth, the chimneys still leaketh, the Building Society still hath not answered . . . the worry is horrid . . . I am so desperate to move now, to move on to the next stage of our lives, to get HOME to Devon. I wasn't born there, but I have the very deepest of roots and they are calling me home. I am longing to be able to walk on the moor again, and go to the Devon Records Office to research my family history - have a possible lead to where my dad's family came from pre-Napoleonic Wars and want to find out if it's correct, but it means looking at parish documents.

  1. Then I wish you the energy to cope with multifareous tasks, and the frame of mind to keep happy while you do them!

  2. I pray that everything turns out well for you my dear!! I feel for you and your worries and know how horrid it is! I guess keeping busy will help distract you a little... but know how once the busyness stops the worries creep back to the forefront of your mind! So I hope you have good news very soon and will find the peace you so need and deserve!!
    Will be thinking of you!

  3. Preparing to move has to be one of the most stressful events ever! But at the end of it is your reward, rather like being pregnant for what seems like eternity and finally having your beautiful baby. How wonderful is the day when you wake up in the new place, with all your belongings and all the fresh new possibilities awaiting you!

Next year I will have a move of about 400 miles, and have begun the repairs, sorting, discarding, improving, etc. It seems like it will never get here, but we know how fast it goes. I so enjoy your words on this subject, and Morning's Minion as well, and hope we all end up with nerves intact and enjoying our new homeplaces!

  5. Thanks for all your kind words. Today has not got off to a good start, however, as middle daughter managed to sleep through her alarm/it didn't go off, and she has missed her train - cheap ticket, alternative costs £128!!! She will now travel tomorrow and even then it's cost her nearly £50 one way . . .

MTVA - nice to meet you. MM has now moved and can't wait to begin gardening! Only difference between house selling and pregnancy is that you have a definite 9 mth remit on the one . . . Good luck with your move. I never realized we had so much JUNK!

  6. Moving is so stressful, even when it's something you want to do. When we retired 6 years ago we moved from California to coastal Georgia a move of more than 2,000 miles. Thanks to some wonderful friends it went well, but aged us still. So thoughts and prayers with you.

  7. Good luck with all the preparations - it's such hard work, isn't it. Commiserations to your daughter, too, I live in dread of sleeping in and missing my train, especially when I'm coming home from Devon!

  8. Moving is stressful, but exciting at the same time. Whereabouts in Devon are you going to?
