There's No Place Like Home . . .

Dorothy had it right in The Wizard of Oz.  I rested yesterday and slept well last night, and have been resting this morning.  I felt chipper enough to put two lots of washing on, and am glad to say that soaking and a hot wash have got the Wednesday morning sheet and mattress protector clean again.  My friend Pam came round and I gave her a huge pot of Blue Grass - Glauca Intense Blue (she loves grasses) and we nattered.  First thing I had a LOVELY video call with my darling friend Rosie in NZ.

Cats know when you are ill and take full advantage!  They are clearly very glad I am home again.  It was lovely to have them by me as I napped and rested last night, once the family had gone home.  I watched a lovely You Tube video about Juliette de Bairacli Levy, several of whose books I had in my late teens/early 20s (still have her New Forest one, Wanderers in the New Forest).  She was an amazing holistic herbalist and travelled to remote places, learning the cures that Romani people, nomads, farmers and animal breeders relied upon.  She went to Europe, Turkey, North Africa, Palestine and Greece.  The video is called Juliette of the Herbs.  She was even able to cure dogs with Distemper.  The programme is Juliette of the Herbs, and there are several clips/longer parts.  It is well worth watching.

I have walked about a little today, including a 1/2 mile or so walk near the river, up towards the old railway line walk.  I don't want to overdo things though.  I had to go out for milk.

Oi, you just sat on me!

Lulu loves children, and spent the afternoon cwtched up beside Rosie, who strokes her so gently.

Aynway, I am now going to put my feet up on the sofa and watch some tv, and do some sewing.  I hope you've all had a good weekend.

  1. I'm happy for you to be home and content. Your ideas of rest and recuperate aren't the same as mine, but you know best. Were you babysitting Rosie too? Digging out the gifted grasses? Surely someone would drop off a quart of milk for you...Anyway, it's good to be home, I know.

  2. I sat all morning, had a video call with Rosie, a visit from friend Pam, got a pint of milk and walked 1/4 mile each way - not feeling tired from that. Two lots of washing done and mostly dried. I bought the Blue Grass for Pam on my way back from the hospital yesterday. Had a nice little stroll round our lovely Garden Centre. I was going to get her a house plant but they had a poor choice (she had most of them already!) Rested all afternoon watching tv and neatly doing the back of the Baltimore quilt. I had another friend call, and we chatted for ages. Makes such a difference to know people care :) Yesterday I rested all day (felt lousy tbh) and was just sat beside Rosie as she watched Puffin Rock (in the hope she would dose off, but no luck). I feel much brighter today. Had a pre-cooked tea tonight (the chicken risotto Tam and Jon made for me).

  3. You were probably anxious to get the laundry washed and now you can rest easy without worrying about it. I might just follow your example today and have an afternoon nap. The morning mist from the sea has not cleared so it seems a napping kind of day.

    1. I was worried if I left it any longer, the blood wouldn't come out. I hated being so bedbound or just sat out on a chair in Hospital, because I am such an active person still.

  4. You are more than due some time on the sofa with the cats. You've had a strenuous spring and summer. I'm sorry that 'rest' had to come about with a scare and a hospital stay, but relieved that you are at home and the issue [hopefully] sorted so there will be no recurrence.

    1. I suspect you are right - I'm not much good at resting, even when I've been ill! Had my first blood thinner again last night and so far, so good . . . Praying there won't be a reoccurrence, esp. if away on holiday.

    1. You are absolutely right - couldn't be without my cats. They always seem to know when you are ill. The girls are also back to snuggling up to me in bed - with Lulu right in the small of my back like a furry hot water bottle :)

  6. Thank you for the links to the Juliette clips. I read 'Wanderers of the New Forest' only last year so didn't know much about her from the past.
Good to hear you are feeling so much better. -

    1. She was a fascinating woman and always lived in remote areas, very basically. From the New Forest book I seem to remember they only ever ate raw food for health reasons. (A bit of a cop out on kitchen duties!!)

Have my fingers crossed that the sore area in my gut has healed over now and the return to blood thinners won't have another reoccurrence.

  12. Aww how lovely to see the cats, and then little Rosie keeping you company on the sofa. Cats do like a person when a person is relaxing as well as they do don't they. I have Wanderers of the New Forest somewhere amongst my many books, I will get around to it one day.
