I feel a lot more comfortable now the dressing has been changed and it has more padding. The cut was worse than I thought as it has taken a goodly sliver of skin off. A small thin leaf shape. It had stopped bleeding but nurse not surprised it bled so heartily last night because so many capilliaries involved. I will leave this dressing on until I've been to Malvern on Sunday (typical timing). Washing up will be fun! And hair washing - back to the washing up gloves for that.
Tam and Rosie have just gone. Poor little mite is really suffering with her teefs - a molar just cutting through the gum. At times nothing would distract her and forget eating proper meals - we are just happy at anything going down. Strawberries were the only thing to pacify her all day, so I shall get another pack to go with me tomorrow as I am going over to help Jon cope - he's not good when she cries. She's so tired too as the pain wakes her at night too. I've checked I can change gear OK.
I have an instant meal tonight, as I couldn't face concocting a pie with the left over chicken from yesterday's roast, so I cheated and have a bakery Cornish Pasty, which I'll have with some veg. I can manage to steam that anyway. Runner beans and cauliflower.
All my travel for New Zealand, trips and bus and trans-alpine railway booked, along with accommodation (did that first). But then another chunk of money went out on top of that as the house is so damp and it's very humid outside still. Tam found me a suitable dehumidifier which was NOT cheap but the only one to suit, apparently - she researched it.
So, onwards and upwards.
Poor Rosie. Could you freeze a few strawberries and see if the cold helps? Is there a product safe for kids while teething? Even children's Tylenol [UK name is other--paracetamol?]
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea. Will try that. She has Bonjela for gums, and Calpol too for pain.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it will be awkward for you to do anything requiring the use of fingers for the next few days, but that dressing should keep you feeling a bit more comfortable.
ReplyDeleteLizzy D's comment reminded me that when my children were teething I had a gel-filled ring that could be frozen and used to bite on. I have no idea whether they are still available today. I think I would prefer strawberries though, given the choice.
Finally, living in a village it is impossible to dry washing outside in the colder months unless I want everything to smell like kippers from all the wood fires! I bought a large dehumidifier a couple of years ago and, put near my clothes horse, it dries the washing remarkably quickly.
Are dehumidifiers more cost effective than a tumble dryer? My dryer dries a load of evryday items in abour 30 minutes.
DeleteI had the gel filled teethers for my kids too, and for my dogs. Popsicles are always popular too, cannot imagine what you call them in UK. Might not help back of the jaw anyway.
No room in utility for a tumble drier, and the problem is the house which is built into the ground at the back - lawn at level of kitchen windows, so that holds any damp in house/causes damp.
DeleteSo sorry for your poor finger. I hope that heals quickly. Poor Rosie teething. Chewing on frozen fruit might help her. Strawberry, and also banana or grapes, what she likes. When are you off to New Zealand? It sounds so exciting!
ReplyDeleteIt's feeling quite comfortable now and I can even type with it. Will try frozen fruit for Rosie. Off to NZ in November for 3 weeks.
DeleteUnder 5 should not have grapes , choking hazard--unless the advice has changed ecently.
DeleteShe doesn't have grapes.
DeleteOuch, glad that bandage is working better. Poor Rosie, teething is not fun for both the child and the parents.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Molars are the devil as so much gum being cut through.
DeleteOh gosh, poor little Rosie, molars are so big compared to other teeth, I'm sure all of us can imagine the pain that it causes so well. Poor you too of course, but hopefully, it must feel a bit better now that it's properly dressed and padded out.
ReplyDeleteYet when I went to Aber today to help babysit, she just wanted daddy, had eaten two breakfasts and was in good form. Jon took her up for a nap and she slept 3 hours . . . I was redundant so left at lunchtime.
ReplyDeletePoorly finger not hurting at all and I can even type with it.
Not pleasant injuring your finger, I lost count how many times I've ended up going to minor injuries of casualty to havea cut looked at and have stitches but then that came with the job I did but it still does no stop it happening at home. We were at Fforest Fields for a couple of days this week, hopefully going back for a few more next week
