Heading North
Outside a house in Machynlleth - these figures tickled me!
A view of the street (you'd be heading back towards Aberystwyth if you headed down here (towards the woods). The figures are in the garden of the big house on the right.
This beautiful chair (based on American Windsor chair designs from more than 200 years ago) gained our admiration.
Above and below: inside and out at The Emporium. Of course, we couldn't resist the antique shops there . . .
This was a lovely antique shop - focusing on proper antiques - big chunks of GOOD antique furniture and complimentary non-china bits. How antique shops used to be.
Climbing up through the trees - fortunately not too much of a challenge to legs or lungs.
Looking up to the castle.
They certainly didn't want any unexpected guests!!
I first thought "Sweet Cicily" but growing too late for that, so it's probably Pig Nut (Earth Nut) as there was definitely some growing inside the walls.
Back with further photos in a fresh post later.

Are there still lots of alternative type shops in the town? another place I've been several times on the way to the Centre for Alternative Technology.Although we never visited the castle. It has such a wide main street compared to all the small roads all around.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't really notice any Sue. At least every shop was taken - you know what some town centres are like these days. We've been to the Centre for Alt. Tech. a couple of times too. The castle is probably a further 12 - 15 miles on from Mach. Bridport has a really wide main street too (from rope making) - not sure why this one's so wide but it might have been something to do with being a big market in the past?
DeleteDelightful figures in that garden and I loved that antique shop.
ReplyDeleteThe path up through the woods looked so inviting. Sounds like a lovely day out BB
Weren't they fun? They made me smile. It was a LOVELY day out - not the boat trip to Caldey Island I had originally planned, but every bit as good.
DeleteI've been to Cader Idris and loved it so much, such a rugged country around there <3
ReplyDeleteI wasn't too keen on those figures, they were a bit creepy! There's a whole village of them near here!!!
It is a really beautiful area. I don't think I'm up to climbing those steep slopes though. The figures made me smile but I could imagine a whole village of them would be a bit Too Much.
DeleteAmazing. I just love the figures. Thankyou for posting the history of Castell y Bere.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hi Jackie. More later. I took SO many photos.
DeleteI LOVE those shops in Mac but luckily I don't go there too often!
ReplyDeleteHi Lou. How far away are you then? Nearer Dolgellau?
DeleteWhat a beautiful town and surrounding hills. So pleased you had the chance to have a good day out. The figures are a bit creepy but very imaginative!
ReplyDeleteIt is a very pleasant town and we enjoyed exploring - it had been years since we had last had occasion to stop there. I have never had such a belated birthday bash, but then K lost out on his entirely last year!
DeleteLove these two figures in the garden, so good to see that they are still there. I photographed them several years ago now when we spent some time in Wales.
ReplyDeleteFancy that - they looked like they had been there some time. I expect they were a bit more glamorous before the weather got to them.
DeleteI was going to say how tasteful and mellow those figures look. Now, reading Serenata's comment, I see that they have been out in the weather for a year or three, so they are truly weathered. Great fun - if a little scary, one could have been my aged aunt! It looks a beautiful area to explore and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThey made me do a double-take for a moment! The pianist especially. We look forward to going up and exploring a bit more.
DeleteI love those garden figures :) The castle looks wonderful - thanks for providing some history and information. Look forward to seeing more pictures and reading more. It looks a super day out.
ReplyDeleteI think people either love them or find them spooky. It is a great castle and I am so glad we got there. Harlech is next on the list.
DeleteThe lovely path is what catches my eye here. I am undecided about the garden figures...creative to say the least! I am enjoying the history, but know so little about it. I may have to do some research.
ReplyDeleteMine too Chip - it just looked perfect for a photo. There is a LOT to learn about Welsh history and it is fascinating.
