Another viewing - so it's hectic here

Sorry I have firstly had Broadband problems (BT are on to it, they tell us), and Keith and Tam are laid up with the cold I had, and now we have a viewing so I have been going flat out as ever to try to get the house looking as pleasant as possible AND working flat out on the garden as the ladies who are viewing are avid gardeners (first we'll have had viewing, just when the garden is at its worst of course).  I have been pulling up grass, buttercups and our pernicious weeds and bunging in Polyanthus all over the place for a bit of colour.  The worst bed has now been covered with bark chips but I have other areas to do . . .  No time to sit (no time for lunch!) - I need to get on. Cross your fingers for us, as ever . . .

  1. I hope it goes well. Of course we've got all this to come as the house is just about to go on the market.

All we need is the sun to shine and everything looks so much better. Good luck. xx

    1. Good luck with your sale. I can do without the sunshine - it brings out the cluster flies!!

  2. If they really are gardeners, they will just see potential, so I wouldn't worry too much about the garden. A bit like houses, the less you have to undo of someone else's work, the better.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a bit of bright weather!

    1. Well, the David Austin roses are there, so hopefully they will be happy with those. Not too bright please (see above comment!) - dry and lightly grey will do (which it is).

    1. Hah! No perfection in my garden - plenty to improve upon and they have the whole of the former paddock to spread into as well.

  4. Years ago some friends in Chorley, who were very keen gardeners, sold their house to people who were also keen gardeners. The new owners prompty reorganised the lot, moving paths, making rockeries where there had been none and totally altering the whole place. I think keen gardeners look for potential rather than what is there already. Hope the viewing is successful.

    1. I'll settle for potential. I have half of it tidier than it was so they can see I've made an effort, but I ran out of bark chippings and time yesterday.

    1. Yes they did, but not sure if it is right for them, all the same. They would be running retreats here.

  12. Exhausting times, but I hope everything went well. Like the others, I have my fingers crossed that these may be the ones to feel the magic of the place, have the dosh, and a desperate desire to purchase, full asking price!

    1. Oh, the spiritual lady felt the magic alright (I expected her to start talking to previous inhabitants!) In the oldest part of the house (kitchen and sitting room), she was standing with her eyes shut, "tuning in". No-one's done that before, although our agent went into the sitting room an said WOW about the atmosphere in there. We just find it warm and welcoming . . .

We shall see - spiritiual lady said the house was speaking to her, so let's hope it talks her round!

    1. I'm not holding my breath tbh, as we had a couple of obvious damp spots we are waiting to disappear as the weather dries again. Lime plaster "breaths" . . . but we have very thick walls with a layer of clay and rubble in the middle which holds moisture.

  15. It is, but it needs the right family to appreciate it. People who know what it's like to live in the country - we keep getting Londoners who have enough money from selling their flat and want to show off in an old house with beams and inglenooks . . . (we won't mention the bats and the cluster flies between friends!!)
