Gosh, I really DO need this holiday, as I have not a jot of energy. Vacuumed round this morning and then had to rest before going to the Library, and looking for Rosie books for here in one of the charity shops.
Some books for Rosie, when she is here. A good haul for just £3.I slept better last night - many thanks to anon friend who posted about a podcast called Nothing Much Happens, which she said had helped her with her poor sleep. Well, I have to say, I was very aware of my breathing slowing whilst I was listening - the woman's voice was very slow and soporific and it did seem to help. I only woke once (for the loo) and then at around 6, my cat alarm clock went off!
I went to the Library too, and got these books (well the Brecon Gaols one was a renewal). As I did the veg for my evening meal at breakfast time, I am now going to go and have yet another daytime nap . . ..
Hope you feel refreshed after your nap and raring to go on your adventure.
ReplyDeleteRefreshed? What's that when it's at home?!!! No. Will try drinking more water and see if that helps me, along with sleeping more at night.
DeleteHydration should help the sleeping...try and finish your first litre by lunchtime....= Less nocturnal disturbance....
DeleteA very good Rosie haul, she will be delighted. ❤️
ReplyDeleteShe will indeed. I am looking forward to reading them to her (the younger ones).
DeleteFun books for Rosie! I followed my mother's example of reading to my children even beyond the time when they could read for themselves. It was more a winter ritual than summertime, gathering around the wood stove in the old farmhouse before scuttling upstairs to chilly bedrooms.
ReplyDeleteI notice at church how few people can read aloud well--it is becoming a lost skill.
I recall once visiting my elderly friend when I was worn out and tired. She insisted I lie down on her daybed and announced, 'I 'll read to you from an utterly boring old book and you'll fall asleep.'
She was a wonderful reader, but could temper her style to a monotone that definitely allowed me to fall asleep!
I'm sure the cats will want to be part of reading to Rosie!
I think I read to mine until they were 8 or 9, by which time we were enjoying The Island of Adventure etc (the only Enid Blyton books worth reading to them). I don't blame you reading downstairs by the fire though, and then everyone scuttling upstairs to bed.
DeleteReading aloud as a skill is easily lost. I noticed this when I used to read to Keith. I have the tv on low in the background (nothing interesting or I can't sleep!) and that helps me drift off.
The cats are part of everything here!!
Reading to children has always been such a joy to me. Whether they are my own, or someone else's. Doesn't matter. I love that.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved it and still do.
Deletei didnt realise i would come up as anon! i am Marlene from scotland and yes am so glad i found that podcast it took me a night or two but i sleep so much better now and i listen again if i wake in the night and whats better is it is free x
ReplyDeleteHello Marlene. I will be using the Podcast again tonight and think it will help again. I need to break the waking up routine.
DeleteI'm curious about the podcast - how do you turn it off at the end if you are asleep?
ReplyDeleteWell, I turned it off at the end! Then just drifted off to sleep but I imagine it only goes to the end and then the recording is over.
Deletethe podcasts just last about 30 minutes, i have used both my phone and kindle and it just shuts off itself which is great
DeleteI loved reading to the boys, and once they started reading we would share the fun. Lovely books for Rosie to listen to and you to enjoy reading to her.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
A lovely set of books to read to Rosie. I always loved reading to my own children as well as to the many classes that I taught. You can’t beat picking up a real book!
ReplyDeleteI hope that your energy soon returns! 😁
