A Snow Day

Beautiful isn't it?  I will go for a little wander up the lane later, when some traffic has been through.

When I padded to the bathroom in the night I could see we had had a reasonable fall of snow (a couple of inches) but I suspect up on the hills it will have been heavier.  The A44 was opened again once they cleared the accident and is open now.  Not that I am planning to go to Aberystwyth!  Tam has had snow, but not as much as here.

I have been watching "Crusoe" on tv, and enjoying that.  Plus several History Hits programmes - I love to learn more about history and archaeology.  I am able to do my cat embroidery whilst having one eye on the screen.  I've been reading a few chapters more of Olivia Cockett's Love and War in London.  Her writing style isn't exactly geared for a quick read, and her relationship (with a married man who, having cocked up a divorce, apparently never tried again) is a difficult one.

The cats have decided, after one sniff at the cat flap, that a Snow Day has been called and all have found warm chairs to sit on.  It was 13 deg. in the kitchen again this morning, which is why I was the filling for a kitten sandwich in the night.  It took me a while to get off to sleep as I was too warm in bed, but then I slept till 8.40 a.m. and woke to snow light shining in above the shutters and curtains.  Off out for a short walk any moment, to catch the scenery at its snowiest, before the sun melts the snow on the trees and hedgerows.  More photos later.

  1. About quarter of an inch of snow here which was a surprise, not melting much as it's below zero. My walk was Very short!

    1. I really enjoyed my walk and hadn't walked that far since first becoming ill. It was ok underfoot too.

  2. I hope you got back from your walk safely. It's far too treacherous for me to stride out anywhere today, there is ice on top of all the snow that fell yesterday. So me and Ginger are staying indoors, well now that Ginger has tried being let out of all the doors over and over again looking for better weather.

    1. Yes, no striding though, just a gentle toddle with one foot in the deeper snow and one in the tyre-mark area. This was our first proper snow - there was barely a sprinkling the previous day.

Pippi, like Ginger, wouldn't believe me that a different door wouldn't give a different weather aspect!!

  3. Being inland you've had a bit more snow than here..I was surprised that we had any..and it is so cold that it is staying, even on the road outside.

    Cats have the right idea!!

    1. The hills in Aber are proving difficult to negotiate apparently, so they must have had more snow than you would expect, being on the coast. Snow not really melting on wires or off tree branches, so it is cold out. 4 days of snow forecast from Thurs onwards so need to get out tomorrow or Weds to get grocery shopping.

Cats definitely have the right idea though Pippi wouldn't believe I couldn't just wave a magic wand and make it summer out there!
