CANCELLED

Yes, that's right, they CANCELLED yesterday evening.  Obviously in the area as yesterday was a possible viewing day had I gone for it, they must have done a drive by.    They said:  We have reviewed the location of the house again and have decided due to the general area, it is not for us therefore we would like to cancel the viewing please."

So there you have it.  2 x 12 hour days and a 6 hour day of housework and gardening to try and make it as perfect, clean and tidy as I could (imagine spring cleaning a 19 room house and you will know how exhausted I am today), all for nothing.  I have never driven myself so hard, and if I hadn't had the garden to do too, could have got the house up together in a day. The garden is another matter though.   I can't garden much in June because pollen levels affect my asthma, and of course everything grows like crazy.  I was away for much of a week and we have been very busy with sourcing and selling stuff for my small business.  Cutting back and weeding was the equivalent of "cutting" an acre of grass with a pair of tweezers . . .

So, either they couldn't cope with living next door to a farm, although it clearly states we are situated next door to a working farm, or we were deemed too far from the shops and amenities.  Their loss.  As Pattypan said, our house wants special people in it, and they weren't special . . .

  7. Thanks everyone. I spent the day baking to cheer myself up! Just after tea we discovered a leak under the sink (as you do) - so that will have to get fixed tomorrow.

  8. Heartbreaking, but the answer is not to bother cleaning next time! The house will sell itself to the right person, and these were obviously not right!

  11. Oh what a disappointment, after all that cleaning and gardening and psyching yourselves up for the viewing. So make the most of your lovely house and garden, enjoy it and savour those baked goodies while you relax. The right people WILL come along, absolutely fall in love and want to buy it. Have a big (((((((HUG))))))) xx

  13. Oh My Goodness, what a shame. I think your home is lovely and living next to a farm sounds lovely. Hoping for a wandering chicken or cow would be very exciting for me.
All I can say is now that everything is looking so pretty, have some tea and sit and enjoy your weekend.

    Love your new header, beautiful.
    cheers, parsnip and thehamish

  14. I am disheartened on your behalf, and hugely sympathetic to the physical work and emotional build up of a 'showing'--difficult and demanding even when the viewers appear as expected.
Perhaps our hardest showings were the 18 months we lived in 'the big house' as we always called it. Huge spaces, three floors of bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas to clean--and always tufts of cat or dog hair discovered at the last minute after putting away the vacuum cleaner.
Do be kind to yourself for a few days. Such efforts leave us more tired than in our youth!
I'm admiring your Welsh poppies--I had one plant of such that endured harsh Vermont winters years ago--I loved the clear yellow petals.

  15. Oh well, the house is nice and clean and the garden is tidy now. One day when you are just about to give up someone will come along and fall in love with it whether you have cleaned and tidied or not. Rachel

  16. Thank you all. I was so disheartened and had really put myself out to have the house as perfect as it could be, though I ran out of time with the garden, I had the bits that matter spruced up. Had they decided to view, they would have seen you can't even see the farm buildings next door until you go upstairs, and there is very little farm traffic unless it's silage time.

You are all perfectly right - when the right buyer comes along, they won't care about a few weeds or cobwebs. We had one in February, but she couldn't face giving up her highly paid London job. She didn't have a life or any free time, but hey, the money was wonderful. You can't take it with you though . . .

  17. Definitely their loss BB - your lovely house is yours to enjoy for a while longer.
Have a rest now and walk your green Welsh lanes instead of cleaning and weeding!

  18. DW - I have every intention of doing just that! I have a hankering for a trip up to Llyn-y-Fan-Fach again too. Watch this space.

  19. I feel for you :-(

But ... keep your chin up and smile ready: someone worthy of your place WILL SHOW UP and make all that work worth it!

Been there and felt the sting 4 years ago, and am presently enjoying our new home due to serious buyers who used their dream/$$$ to make ours come true ;-)

Waiting is hard, but worth it when the right buyers show and buy :-D

  20. That must be such a disappointment but on the positive side you now have a nice clean house and a much imoroved garden. My son is having the same sort of trouble selling their flat in Walkley, it's been on the market for ages and he doesn't want to let it again so they'll just have to hang in there until a buyer comes along.

  21. Hello Valeria. Thank you for those cheering words. We will just have to hold the faith.

Rowan - you would think their flat would sell easily - Walkley's a handy area for the city centre and for amenities. I hooe a buyer turns up soon.

  22. My heart reaches out to you in solidarity with living in a location that needs someone to love it. The right buyer will come and then it will happen. All in its own time is what they tell me, altho I am an impatient one sometimes !~!

Please take a few days to enjoy the amazing area in which you have lived and loved for so long. Peace will again find your soul.
