A Random Miscellany

Just a quick random miscellany of photos from the past couple of weeks.  The one above shows the red flag flying to show they are firing on the Eppynt range.  Below is the view across the mynydd where it links with civilized farmland.

Below: the Beacons snoozing in a little sunshine.

One of the Gousto recipes - remembered just in time to take a photo - this is Minty Lamb Meatloaf, Rosemary Potatoes and Gravy.   Very tasty.

Before the Leylandii hedges went - I must get another photo tomorrow to show the comparison - it's opened it right up.

The best I could do to show how much room they were taking up.  Today I have been clearing ancient rotting and weed-infested membrane from the area behind the shrubs, and I planted 3 big clumps of rescued Primroses by the Holly and damaged Cherry on the right.

Finally, from a walk the other evening, the first Stitchworts in bloom.

    1. Well, instead of having to keep trimmed 2 huge Leylandii hedges which were not attractive, I can now plant up an area 8 feet wide x 20+ feet long with beautiful plants and give it some colour.

    1. At the moment, the gardening is very slow because of it being too cold to work out there, and not being able to put things in because of threatened frosts. Hopefully that was the last cold night last night . . .

It is SO beautiful here, wonderful views and we can't wait to explore further.

  3. The ground view of the space gained by removing those bushes is amazing. It's like you've gained an extra garden!

    1. There is a LOT of space to slowly plant up and it will look lovely when everything is established.

  4. I can smell the clean air from here which unfortunately is becoming bad up here in Worcestershire due to the lockdown lifting. You are so lucky to live where you do.

Old neighbours of our had a fruit hedge dividing the gardens a mixture of gooseberry, raspberry, redcurrant etc. I expect the birds would have a great time stealing them. Were the conifers used as a wind break and if so will this make a difference to you heat wise?

    1. The air here is wonderfully clear - we have lots of lichens and ferns growing on the trees to prove it. Sorry you are suffering because of the Lockdown being lifted. We chose the right spot here, that's for sure.

We thought the conifers might have been a windbreak but I think they just planted them as low maintenance and then found out they weren't and we certainly didn't want to have to keep cutting them back or paying someone else to. Our stable yard faces south so it wonderfully warm when the sun's out and there's no bitterly cold Northerly wind!

Soft fruit planting planned for the weekend . . . though probably now a fruit hedge as such, though that's a nice idea.
