I guess I should have stayed in bed . . .

. . . the day seemed to be starting well.  I slept until 6 a.m. and got up, refreshed.  I went down to get the paper and started the Llanelwedd railway line walk at 10 to 8 a.m.  It was lovely to be out so early.  Then I came back and began measuring and cutting the components for the blocks.  That went well. I sewed a whole pile of them together - great.  Ironed the seams open and started on the first whole block and managed to get both halves upside down/back to front/whatever.  Screwed up anyway!  Swore and - stupidly - decided I would have a break and do the one little reverse L-shape piece of wallpaper.  So I carefully measured, came downstairs and cut the L shape, before realizing I had cut it out back to front - as I had turned it over to pencil the cutting line on the back.  Sh*t!!! So then it was a bodge-it job - use the piece I had cut on the longer drop, and a short piece which more of less matched (ahem) under the sink.  I've often said, if I had a brain I'd be dangerous.  Today seems to prove it!

Yesterday I rested up, watching YouTube programmes.  I had the heated throw on and slept several times, as I had been awake from 12.30 a.m. until 5 a.m. overnight.  The cold kept me awake as I had a hanky stuffed up one nostril and had to breath through my mouth.  I drank lots of water, an took Panadol,  but still felt a bit shivery.  It was lovely looking out onto the bank, with the Magnolia and both the Pieris glowing in the gloom of the rainy day.  A green blush is spreading through the trees and under canopy, though the Sycamores are fully out.

After mucking up with the wallpapering, I decided it could wait and I would have a dash up to Aldi to get veg (needed), and a few other things.  That relieved me of £18, and then £17 in Tesco, so a very cheap week. When I got to Llandod, I parked up by the lake and did a quick walk around it.  It's only 1 Km but all the steps help.

Now it's rest up time. I put some beef in the slow cooker earlier on for a casserole and of course I am having carrots and broccoli with that!

  1. Oh, Jennie!!!! I use the 'if I had a brain' line, regularly. Another go-to is 'In my next life, I hope I'm smart!'

    1. I think the cold is still affecting me, as I've just been doing my memory games and can't do what I could 3 hrs ago.

  2. Oh no sorry about both quilt mistakes and wallpaper issues. Your walks sound lovely as does a resting day under the heated blanket. And dinner sounds so good! Will family visit for Easter? Mine are all elsewhere, I invited a friend who declined as she is too busy w her new civic group to be bothered w old friends. I am feeling a bit low but have things planned anyway.

    1. The walks were lovely. No-one here for Easter for the girls and I are meeting up next week and Tam, Rosie and I going to Cardiff to see Gabs. I got a HUGE leg of lamb (reduced) at Christmas and that was meant to be for Easter . . . Sorry that your family and friends won't be with you at Easter. I hope you can find something to do to cheer you up. Dinner was tasteless so beef will now appear as a curry tomorrow night.

    2. Thanks for sympathy! Your meet up next week sounds lovely. I have a big sewing commission to work on, so I ll just do that. Took a walk in the weak sunshine, will go out again later. Since Covid I do better w two short walks instead of a longer walk. And poor Mo is still confined to home, he had a bad pain event yesterday again, so no doggy walks. .//Maybe dinner was tasteless due to your cold? Feel better!

    3. Tea was yuk because I used just one stock cube and 2 pints water and the gravy thickener was low salt. Enjoy your two short walks a day and I do hope Mo is better soon and can join you again.

Enjoy your sewing commission - I hope it goes easily for you. Tonight, my stitch ripper and I had a Date!!

  3. Under a warm rug seems like the place to be! I’ve just been able to ‘come down stairs’ after 5 days with Covid courtesy of tiny granddaughters. Husband has heart condition, so managed to stop him getting it. Was really just like a not too bad head cold this time, but I don’t have much taste and I thought I may start a new cross stitch to do over winter, but can’t seem to get out of my own way yet! Very quiet Easter here, we are dog sitting and the family have gone mountain biking in our ‘high country’ best wishes JennyP

    1. Oh Jenny, Covid is horrid. I had it just the once, when I was nursing Keith, and had NO energy for about 6 weeks. Loved "can't seem to get out of my own way yet"! Hope you find a nice new x-stitch to do. I began one for Rosie - Peter Rabbit - but the blardy waistcoat, is two stitches of this brown, 2 stitches of that, and all about one number apart! It's been abandoned since my holiday . . .

    1. Keith's too. I did measure accurately - then didn't turn it over before cutting!!

  5. I've often found if I mess up one project [such as getting a quilt block wrong] I'm apt to go on and have difficulties with the next task attempted. Some days our brains just aren't in proper gear and we have to take a break! As I've said before I have a problem with 'seeing' a pattern in reverse--in terms of a quilt block I need to lay out the components of each separate block and carefully move them to the sewing machine. I can chain piece two blocks at a time that way, but if I attempt many multiple I'm likely to screw up!

    1. Yes, I think the baby sitting and the cold (and night without sleep) have done my brain a dis-service. "Carefully move them to the sewing machine" - yes, me too. With a pin down the sides I should be sewing together just for good measure!! I'm glad it's not just me that messes up and I always think of you as the most amazing faultless quilter!

    2. "faultless quilter"--no way! I'm usually pleased with the end results, but I know my limits in terms of challenging patterns. And, my sessions with the seam ripper aren't shared!

  6. Idiotic moments are common to all. I call it my 'spatial awareness zone' which gives it some credence ;)

  7. Gosh, poor you. Colds befuddle my brain too ... I never attempt reversing into a space when I've got a cold, it would be disastrous. 😄 I hope a day taking it easy will help you, and lots of spices in that curry to wake up your taste buds.

  8. What Sue, Thelma, and Minion said! Tired and unwell are not helpful ways of being! Hope you feel better soon!
