Unknown - you are wasting your time . . .

Unknown - I moderate all the comments on this blog, so yours are all in the bin forever . . .

Blackthorn in full bloom beside the narrow gauge railway line which runs from Aberystwyth up to Devil's Bridge.

And to my friends - I've had a busy day today, visiting Jon and Rosie and giving him some moral support.  Rosie's been ill all week with a high temperature and Tam back at work today, so I went to give cuddles to Rosie and give worried Jon a break.  Last Friday, when she must have been coming down with this, she was unconsolable with Jon and Tam had to come home from work as Rosie wouldn't settle or sleep.  She was better today and even had a bottle (breast milk) for the first time and lots of little sips of water from her cup with a straw.

I popped into Charlie's on the way there and found a rose support with blackbirds on.  It opens on two sides so it was what I wanted to encircle a rose which was already becoming wayward.  Photos above and below - the obligatory layby photos.

I have decided to abandon the Heirloom pattern for that quilt.  I just don't have the experience for it and quiltmaking is supposed to be a pleasure after all.  I am, however, taking an element from it to make up into a block which I found when browsing old quilting magazines last night. I will share it when the first block has been tried out.

There were golden ribbons of gorse hedgerows today - so beautiful. The best home made wine I have ever had was Gorse Wine - it was like liquid sunshine. When I tried making it though, it was chucked!

Celendines and violets on my walk to/from the garage again yesterday.

This was by a garden pond edge. Like Lords and Ladies but bright lemon yellow.  Unusual. Still Arum maculatum though, but a domesticated version.

Tomorrow I'm out early and back early as my new computer is being delivered.

  1. 'Unknown' has been hitting my blog also with a barrage of stupidity--not obscene, just annoying. In the 'trash' they go!

    1. Yes these are just a couple of words or even blabla to get a link into an old post - hoping I wouldn't notice. Annoying.

  2. That is why I review comments...I don't get as many unpleasant ones as I used to, thankfully.
That yellow thing looks suspiciously like Skunk Cabbage, a south African plant, and I think may be reportable and should be destroyed especially if near a water course.

Good to hear that Rosie is improving....it is a worry, even more so when young

    1. I had the diediediedie etc one again recently - what nice characters they are. NOT! Never heard of Skunk Cabbage. It is in someone's garden though so I assume they got it from a Nursery?

I think Rosie had picked something up from nursery.

  3. It was cold down there last week when we were at our caravan, need to go back again next week for its service so I'll bring a warmer coat this time. I noticed the daffs still out and the trees coming into bud around as well, mind you the Wye is down I noticed with the lack of rain.
New computer, that is something to look forward to, I'm thinking of getting an ipad to use when I go down to built, the laptop is a bit of a bind to bring and my phone gets hard to read

    1. Cold wind here again today, but clear blue skies and sunshine - no complaints!

New computer has arrived. Waiting for the "techie" to do likewise.

    1. Beautiful and nicer than if it had been deliberately planted as so random. Enjoying the weekend and have cleared another little bit of the garden.

  5. I always used to read books to the bitter end, even when I really didn't get on with them. Now I just think "Life is too short!" and reach for another if I am getting bored, annoyed or frustrated.

    1. I am with you on that but was very late to the party with it! I feel the same about quilt patterns too :)

  6. Poor Rosie. hope she is better soon. Lovely to see how everything has suddenly turned green. I wonder if the yellow flower is a skunk cabbage? I grew some by my pond in Devon.

    1. She's mending now and catching up on her sleep too. I noticed when driving to Llandeilo today, how everything was greening up in the hedgerows. Made me smile. Yes, gz reckoned Skunk Cabbage too.

  7. I'm sorry Rosie has been ill. How fortunate for Tam and Jon that you can be there for them. Must be hard for Tam having to return to work now. It sounds like abandoning the quilt is the right thing to do. Why keep at something you don't enjoy doing? Move forward! Oh yes, ignore whatever "unknown" wrote - not worth any thought now.

    1. I just wish I lived nearer, but didn't know Tam would find a partner an hour and a half away. In fact, all my kids are a similar journey away. It's ok to change my mind, I have told myself.

  8. Good for you giving up on that quilt. Life is just too short to do things that bring no happiness or usefulness. I'm just finishing off a Prairie Schooler Santa. I've nearly completed the whole (original) set and have told my son that in no way should he send them to a charity shop when I've gone! (From Wiltshire where the sun is shining!)

    1. You're right there -life is definitely too short (says she who gains another year next week!) My kids have been told with the house contents - take what they want or need, but obviously things I made or Keith made, we would like to be passed on. The rest - into a good auction.

    2. I'm making a list of friends who, after my son and his family have removed what they want, can take anything before the rest goes off to auction or clearance.

  9. so sorry to hear you have given up on the quilt. put it and the pattern in a bag in the cupboard for now and speak to your tutor about it. Did you read my second comment on your last post? I have tried to explain about the 7/8" rule. Shirley, Perth Australia.

    1. Alex would tell me of course I could do it and with her at my elbow, I could, but not at home! Yes, got your message about the 7/8" and can understand the whys of it now. Thanks Shirley.

  10. the likes of "unknown" are not worth our time, yet look at how many of us are responding to them!
Hope sweet Rosie is on the mend very soon!

  11. Aww, poor Rosie, hopefully she is on the mend soon. It's so worrying when they are that age isn't it. The 'Unknowns' of blogland and the Anonymous that don't sign their names and go on to spew lots of criticism or just plain nastiness are a waste of space aren't they. I relish pushing that Delete Forever button some days.

  12. Unknown and Anonymous, I get them every day. Stupid comments go straight into the trash bin. Tis the season for spotting colourful flowers in the hedgerows. Nice to see everything coming to life.

Some lovely wild flowers coming into bloom now and I enjoy seeing them, and identifying any new ones. I saw the first Bluebells this week too.
