Update: GP just phoned to say my bloods were back and I have a sky high marker (should be 5 or under and it's 84!) showing an infection. That's why I was a bit shivery a couple of nights, and had drenching sweats and no appetite. She's getting a script for A/B's sent down to the pharmacy for me so I'll get that this afternoon.
I'm inside, in the kitchen. 24 deg and too darn hot out there for me. I got all the outside jobs done earlier and have a couple of clothes horses full of washing probably completely dry by now. I've done the cat litter, and finally emptied all the half empty jars of this and that which Tam asked if I could dispose of for her. The glass jars are soaking, lids binned, and compost caddy emptied and washed.
I sat down and researched the things I came home with yesterday. My "having a feeling" (Keith at my elbow I reckon!!) that I should go straight to the far side of the stalls paid off. I bought a really fabulous French piece but that is put away for the moment. I also found this:
A nice studio pot by Iona Pottery.
And this:
The Reckitt's Blue advertising card reminded me of when I used to wash little grey ponies' tails in it before they went off to Pony Club, when I worked with horses and had two grubby little tinkers to scrub up, especially after they had been down to granny and grandads' in the Quantocks, where the soil is red and Pink Ponies returned just before Pony Club Camp. Then this, which is currently on the fireplace mantleshelf.

I couldn't resist these three off the same stall! And yes, looking at the backdrop to these, I WILL do some tidying up this morning :)
Staying on the subject of cats, Lulu, reduced to popping bubblewrap to stave off the pangs of hunger!!
I need to go round with a vacuum shortly as there are no end of daddy long leg spiders and babies around the cornices and they need moving on . . .
I have shut the front door - well, the only door really, as it leads outside from the hall and the old Georgian door at the side of the kitchen is fixed not to open - as it was letting too much hot air and too many flies in. A shame as I loved listening to the Swifts screaming overhead - though most of them are hawking for insects above Pam's, and she's delighted about that. It also shuts out the sound of my farming neighbours tractors as they are haymaking in nearby fields. Perfect weather for it.
Another load of washing on (my duvet cover as it's too hot for the duvet) so that will be washed and dried today. I will find some hand-sewing to settle down with this afternoon.
I like the ceramic cats, especially the red one, it's so unusual.
ReplyDeleteSo let me get this straight, you buy at certain places where you sell, then sell the things you've bought at a profit at other places. If that's the case, then don't the people you've bought from sell at those places too?
J.
That's what I did when I had my business. My trips to Malvern are just for pleasure, to look round, see old friends etc. and buy a few bits. People come from all over to go to Malvern to sell, they aren't tied to an area. Some of them literally live in the back of their vans all summer, going all over the country to buy and sell. Some are house clearance people who live more locally, and have to get out there to sell, but don't go all over the country to pass on their stuff.
DeleteWhat treasures, treasures, TREASURES you found, Bovey!! I love every single thing....but the cats? Oh, the cats! They must be my favorite!! :-) Yes, in this heat=work done early. ~Andrea xoxo

ReplyDeleteAndrea - aren't they fab? Can't find out anything about the middle one.
ReplyDeleteI have a few cat ornaments around the house, but manage to stop myself from buying more. Now when I see something cattish I pass it on to my friend. She loves them.
ReplyDeleteThese asked nicely to come home with me! They were so unusual.
DeleteWould the French drawers slide in the other way up, so that the 'bottom' of them could be used as a little shelf. That's what I did with a set similar ... but very English. I love the Foxgloves painting, I would have been very tempted by that.
ReplyDeleteNo dammit - just tried that and they have a little "ledge" preventing this. Keith would have course sorted that in 5 minutes, but I'm not Keith. The Foxgloves painting was one of many done by one artist - who'd either died or had a clear out as there was a lot of her work on offer.
DeleteIts so hot here! I love everything you bought at the Fair, especially the painting with the pink spires of flowers. My washing was dry in about an hour today and the lawn needs mowing, but might do that this evening when the back is in the shade. The boilerman has just been, phoned to say he was in the area so could do the service now (a month early), £70 on that and just waiting to hear about OH's car, service and MOT. I watered again last night, dread to think what our water bill will be. Xx
ReplyDeleteThey are Foxgloves and well-executed. I have just put the actual dirty bedding in the wash - having had a senior moment and washed the carefully folded CLEAN duvet cover. How did I not notice the difference, especially since the dirty duvet cover was still on the DUVET?!! I don't have to pay for my water but I do have to be careful of it in case it dries up . . .
DeleteEverything is lovely! The little cat figures are so cute. I particularly like that vase. As for Lulu, she's very pretty. My cat likes to chew on soft plastic wrap as well. I think it's a textural thing for some cats.
ReplyDeleteIt's got a nice glaze on it, which is why it came home with me. She's gorgeous - got all the Siamese genes, blue eyes included, but purrs rather than meows. Pippi got the Siamese voice.
DeleteI hadn't seen anything like any of those cats before. You may be right about the texture and the chomping on the plastic.
ReplyDeleteShe's a funny little thing - no mind-reading there . . .
Deletehope the ab's work asap. I struggled to hang out laundry to dry and just had to dash {relative to PD} to bring it all in as the temps dropping rapidly with an encroaching sea fret and a very thundery feeling to boot! love the pottery vessel.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both Debbie. Glad you were able to bring in your washing before you were surrounded by the sea fret. I went to fold mine (the twice washed piece) and found a bird poo on it. Think I will just sponge it off . . .
ReplyDeleteVery fun finds! Love the painted bin and the ceramic kitties.
ReplyDeleteYour health tho! You are doing far too much for someone who is ill. Does the doctor know what the infection is?? [so if I'm being bossy and nosy!]. You must rest more. Make ice tea / sun tea and ice cubes. Read a book . Sit!
Oh the Foxgloves painting is a delight too, so much depth and energy for an impressionistic vignette.
It is 26C here today, much cooler. I opened the windows and like you am doing loads of wash. I turned off the AC, it just doesn't seem like summer if I stay indoors wearing a winter fleece and gloves. [AC on ''frigid'' for Mo the Pug]. Will turn it back on soon tho....
Well, it was only today that I was "Officially Ill" - in the infection line anyway. I thought I might be but because of the high heart beat being associated with the AFib problem, I couldn't go and pound on the reception desk and say I am ill you know! Different Dr phoned me (the one I'm registered with) and she could see whatever the infection was (it's in my lungs so we'll say there), it needed treating soonest. I have only done a couple of loads of washing today and the little daily chores first thing. I'll water round with the hose tomorrow. My girls will be here on Weds and Tam's staying over as she has dentist on Thursday and I have to go to and look after Rosie whilst she's in there.
DeleteI'm not sure about the three cats - I prefer the real one in the bubble wrap!
ReplyDeleteThe foxgloves and Scots pines are both really well done and the studio vase is lovely. I'm glad you found lovely things.
She's the star by a country mile! You can never tell what will be at Malvern as it's all down to the dealers turning up. Sometimes it clashes with other Fleamarkets (Shepton Mallet is one).
