Interesting - I see I am not the only one having problems although I do moderate mine already. In the last few months I have noticed more and more spam comments appearing and awaiting my moderation. Before that Blogger automatically stopped them before I even saw them and I was only aware of them via googlemail. I have been considering allowing only comments by google users to try and get rid of the problem but have hesitated as I do not wish to stop people who sometimes leave legitimate comments but are not google users.
Thanks both for your comments. It's been getting worse these past few weeks, and I was fed up with going over my old posts to check for spam. So here we are, spam-free!
RR- it does sound like Blogger has left us to our own devices . . .
I think it's a good idea. I had a ghastly racist message posted anonymously on mine and deleted it instantly. It would have been really upsetting if it had automatically gone out on my blog. Arilx
I can't be bothered with them - the minute I saw I had an extra unanswered comment on my posting, I knew it would be from Somewhere Foreign - e.g. Far East. Selling viagra, films (porn I assume) and that sort of thing. The word in their language at the bottom is the giveaway. Sorry you had such a horrid racial message on your blog. NOT nice.
I had to delete one this morning--and noticed it was from a source which several months ago made the rounds of those who follow the same blogs--friends of friends sort of thing. I wish spammers of every ilk [phone call scammers are rampant here] would get some sort of real life!
They're a pain aren't they? Phone call scammers too? Goodness, we "just" get companies trying to get us to have a new boiler on a Government-sponsored scheme (we had one two years back) and if you put the phone down on them your details get passed to someone else and so on. Or the foreign voice claiming to be from Microsoft or BT or someone saying they have noticed I have a problem with my computer and they can fix it (once I give them all my banking details no doubt!) Yeesh.
Yes it has suddenly started up again hasn't it? Deleting them is the only way, I can't actually see the point of them spamming, most people are savvy on the internet and don't open the spam. Had an email from Africa, telling me to get in touch with ....... and giving my bank details of course - silly sods ;)

ReplyDeleteSo far I have been lucky and not hit with much in the way of spam. I think it is because I am pretty small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.
ReplyDeleteHope you get your problem under control very soon
God bless.
