A brute of a storm - definitely Dennis the Menace

I hope that you are all safe and warm and DRY as you read this, but I know that many many people are not.  Wales got hit very hard this time, and the poor residents of Pontypridd have suffered, whilst Herefordshire and Gloucestershire also have a lot of flooding and Nottinghamshire has been badly hit too.  The Scottish borders will be bearing the brunt as the storm spirals across them.  We were lucky - our river burst its banks as it often does, flooding the lane both sides of it.  Here were my photos taken around 10 a.m. this morning.

This is the little stream at the back of our house, showing no threat to our home.

Whilst out in the front pond, some chaps who don't give a damn about the rain or the storm, have been making merry . . .

  1. Love that froggy photo -- worth sending up to a newspaper or somewhere!

  2. Hope it doesn't take too long to die down again. Have you seen the photo of Llechryd Bridge (or rather, over the bridge?). It reminded me that I've not been to Cenarth Falls for several years - always tremendous a few days after the rain. By the way, love your new ring. That pattern is usually done much larger, often quite clunky, but yours is so dainty. Beautiful.

  3. The water looks threatening by its dark color and it looks like it is moving fast. I hope that white trailer is ok. The frogs look happy. Thanks for your info about storm Dennis, I am praying for safety for people in all the areas you mention.

    1. It didn't get quite up to the caravan though it has in the past. The river gets up quite a head of steam when there's been so much rain.

    God bless.

  5. Lots of rain here too but nothing like the poor people in S Wales and other parts of western Britain with big rivers.
Hope you have stayed dry and warm.
    Too soon for frogspawn here

    1. Yes, the big rivers do seem to be on our side of the country - not too surprising as we get the most rain. We were safe and warm indoors I'm glad to say. We've had frogspawn the 3rd week of January before - it gets frozen sometimes, but that just slows down the development rather than kills the tadpoles.

  7. The sheer force of the water in the rivers is quite frightening. Our village seems to be surrounded by flooding and Worcester is bad again

    1. Ours goes along at a heck of a rate -fall in there and you'd be in Carmarthen Bay before you had time to shout for help! Sorry you are surrounded by flooding too - we will see how bad it is in the Towy valley and Carmarthen when we venture out this morning.

  8. Fast flowing water always looks so dramatic doesn't it, but it can create so much destruction in its path. I am really glad to hear that you were not effected by the heavy rain at the weekend, my heart goes out to those that were.

  10. We are ok, just rather windswept. It's heartbreaking seeing the damage elsewhere

  11. I've enjoyed my visit here. I'll be back again. Amazing that was all carved from one piece of wood. Craftmanship, and the stained glass windows are so stunning. I hope you are soon feeling better.
