Every morning I look forward to reading various blogs and catching up with what my blogging friends are up to, and to looking at the posts on my Instagram page. I don't often post on there, but I love to be distracted by various doing-up-an-old-house posts that I follow. Two new ones today, one in Bavaria - they appear to know what they are doing when it comes to tile stripping and revamping a roof anyway. The other a family buying an old Norwegian farm. Then there are various church and cathedral posts (sioz4026 has British ones and lots of amazing Spanish ones too.) I follow a few antiques posters as well, in Wales and Cellar Antiques in Yorkshire. I follow some equestrian posters too - American rescues as well as following our equestrian teams as they perform. Lots of sewing and quilting posts as well - very inspirational. Then the not-a-thing-out-of-place lovely old homes which are at least easy on the eye and I love to see how other people furnish and decorate their homes. Do any of you follow Instagram posts?

Distractions
My bed is stripped and first load in the wash, and bed made up fresh with help from the girls of course. They appear from nowhere the minute I start to strip it.
I had a nightmare last night - woken at a scream from Pippi. Of course, I didn't know if I had dreamed it or it had happened and woken me. But I searched the house and couldn't find her anyway - though I was certain she hadn't gone out after teatime. Eventually I looked under the upholstered chair in my room (draped with my dressing gown) and she was there . . . Of course, by then I was wide awake and came downstairs for an hour or so. Went back up, chilled (4 a.m. is cold) with a hotty botty and put the duvet back over the bed. Too cold for just a think patchwork quilt and a sheet now. Cool enough to wear jeans again, so hopefully that will keep some of the bitey things away. They have had a good season munching me.
Right, this won't do. I have a painful stye in my right eye and must bathe it again. Yesterday it felt like I had been punched in the eye. The pharmacist said to bathe it for 5 mins twice a day but I have been doing it more often than that. It burst once, but has reformed overnight. I asked the cause and he said it was often using old make up applicators. Guilty as charged. I have chucked out my mascara too as I have been using that for months - you are meant to chuck them after 3 months . . . this is older. I ordered a nice new one for "older ladies" from Mr Amazon. I will bathe my eye again and venture to the shops.
I have two churches to write up, so will do one for tomorrow.

I have been listening to rain on and off all night and it is still going, which is good of course. I joined Instagram but didn't find it very useful. Mostly for family, and to see what the grandchildren are up to in London. Hope the stye gets better, we learn new things every day, though I don't use makeup anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt's just been drizzling here. A short steady drizzle for a little while, but certainly NOT coming down hard enough to hear it outside. A shame as we are so parched here and we need a good soaking to deter the arsonists at large.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the Instagram posts I follow, and am so grateful to Sam for introducing me to Podcasts. How did I live without them?
Right, eye, and Library . . .
I'm not a fan of social media in general, so haven't used Instagram in years. I used to be on there in its early days -- before 'influencers' and before advertising. I hope your eye is feeling better...and that some proper rain comes your way! Our downpour of yesterday was nice but not nearly enough...*sigh*...but it was cool enough to require a cardigan to walk the dog this morning so I'm clinging on to that! ~melanie xo
ReplyDeleteWe've had some rain today - periodic drizzle and then some burst of heavier rain, but not enough. Not enough to put fires out or wetten the mynydds so the arsonists can't burn it. Another fire relit at the Hospital Helicopter pad - I hope they catch the little barstewards doing this and beat holy crap out of them . . .
DeleteIt has cooled here (thank heavens) and I have a nearly worn through sweatshirt on and the duvet back on the bed.
I've stopped buying the breaded fish fillets from the fridge section of Aldi, like you I found them to be just mushy and quite tasteless once cooked. I've switched to the frozen breaded fillets instead they are much nicer and the same price. I do follow some people on Instagram but none of the same ones as you.
ReplyDeleteOnce only was enough for me. When I think of the fabulous fish from our chippy, and better still, the Scarborough fish - SO fresh and sweet - this was just absolute CRAP. Keith used to like the Cod in beer batter from Aldi.
DeleteI follow ThriftwoodVintageHome on Instagram and a few others. Cat rescues are also a favourite. I changed our bed today, no help from Sheva, apart from she shot into the underbed drawer where I keep the bedding, so had to leave the drawer open. We buy our fish from Nick who comes to the farm shop once a month. Slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for, not that I eat fish but OH loves it. Hope your eye gets better soon and have a lovely weekend with Tam and Rosie. Just watching the racing from York. Xx
ReplyDeleteI've noted that one to check out when the Internet is playing ball again - won't load Instagram pages at present. I'll blame the rain!
ReplyDeleteYou're right about you get what you pay for. There used to be a frozen /fresh fish van came round our old house, but that was when we were skint so he didn't get many sales from us.
My eye still very sore and developing pus. If it's still bad tomorrow I will go to the Optician (they don't open on Saturday).
Oh, the racing from York. Keith and I always used to watch that and it was a lucky track for him, he often had good winners.
York was my stepbrother-in-law's home course, as he rode for a lot of northern trainers. Xx
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you were watching it yesterday. Lovely to have a jockey in the family - bet he could tell some tales about the horses he's ridden.
DeleteYes I do use Instagram but I must confess I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. Plus they keep changing it all the time. I was shocked to read you are meant to toss your mascara after about 3 months. I am sure I have had mine for at least 3 years (!!) Goodness me!
ReplyDeleteI did know that, but tend to use them until they dry up. Apparently, that's often how you get a stye because the interior takes in little bits of skin bacteria from the wand, each time you use it and is an ideal breeding ground for them.
DeleteTreat yourself to a new mascara, I would!!
