Yet another update

He's back from the vet's, and his night at one of the female vet's houses where she said the first thing he did was to pass big sharp bones all over her kitchen floor - and it would appear he had eaten a Rattus Giganticus (the farm next door breed 'em BIG). She thinks most of it is now out, but he still "may" need another enema etc. I do hope not. He has been delerious with happiness a being home and very clingy - it's just like having a poorly toddler all over again. I couldn't do anything - tried the ironing and he just sat on what I was trying to iron!

Anyway, he's having a snooze now, which is good. I will have lunch whilst I can and get back to the ironing.

  1. It is dreadful to watch an animal suffer--we do everything we can for them and can't reassure them that all the hateful procedures and vet trips are for their good.
Isn't Tippy the boy who went walk-abouts several months ago? Maybe he found this awful meal while living rough and its just now catching up to him?
For what its worth: when I've had cats who are poorly, I have bought the little jars of strained meat meant to feed human babies--a spoonful of it is very tempting to my cats.

  2. Thanks both. MM - I did actually look in Tesco's to see if I could find the beef broth someone recommended, but everything was what my darling man calls "messed about food" - and had lots of veg in it. He is happily eating sachet cat food in jelly, to which I have added some oil as the vet suggested. He is now snoozing on the bed. And yes, he was the one who went walkabouts for about 6 weeks. I think he picked up some very unsavoury habits then! Apparently the rat leg bones were coming out WHOLE so no wonder they had been causing a blockage.

Al - thanks. Any cat person hates to hear of someone else's pet suffering.

  5. Well every bit that comes out means one step nearer recovery. Keep 'em coming, Tippy! We had the great reunion with Scruffy last night. He's one happy camper today -- but exhausted after all the excitement.

  6. Goodness gracious! I hope he won't eat more of these gigantic rats. The poor dear.

  7. Keep up the good work Tippy!

Hoping that will be the end of it BB. What a worry he is giving you.xx

  8. Poor Tippy, lets hope Tippy avoids rats in future.

  9. I'm pleased he seems to be on the mend. It's worrying when they eat wildlife - you can never control what they're having. Still keeping my fingers crossed.

  11. Mix an egg yolk in half a cup of cream, store in the fridge. Give this poorly baby a couple of tablespoons per day, it will 'lubricate' and you won't believe how shiny his coat will be. This, along with a meal of lamb or beef heart once a week with a dab of liver may help provide the nutrients he is trying to obtain for himself eating wild meat. I bred and showed siamese for 20 years and this hint was given to me by an older breeder......

  12. Susan - I'll try that later. At present the lubrication is a selection of oils . . . I'll try the heart too, for him and his brothers (and Lucy, our "racing snake" who would also rather eat something that's drawn breath!). Thank you.

  13. So glad he's feeling better BB! Sounds like he'll be getting 5* treatment until he's back to his old self again! Hope he stays away from the giant rodents in future!

  14. 5* with brass knobs on Willow! He has me a his beck and call and has suddenly become a Lap Cat (as opposed to the Cat That Walks in the Wild Wet Woods for weeks on end . . .) He's currently on our bed (pillow is the nicest place he finds) and is outside of a tablespoonful of cream (double) and egg yolk which Susan recommended (he LOVES it Susan, thankyou) and I am hoping it will get him moving again.

Where he's lost so much weight, even I can feel the lump in his bowels which is ratty bones hopefully moving towards the daylight again . . .

Susan - we will also try the beef/lamb heart or liver for them all on a weekly basis.

We used to have an old piebald boy (Foggy) who would bring us back - dead - pheasants which were destined for the shoot. If only we could train the boys to do that for us!

  16. Glad to hear the lad likes his cream! Try giving it to all your feline family. Cats are obligate carnivores, have no use for grain or plant matter. Your cats will thank you with longevity and good health if you feed them some fresh heart etc.

I enjoy your blog! lovely photos!!
