Dinefwr Castle walk

Well, I am just killing time in between viewings - next folk are due now but have phoned the agent to say they were delayed on the motorway due to heavy traffic.  We have had a busy (and exciting!) week of viewings here, so we will see what the next one brings.  I am off to have a cup of tea and to read my book (The Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick, who writes so well.  I have the Winter Queen to follow on with.)  Keep those fingers crossed please, but I dare not tempt fate just yet . . .

A beautiful carved stone memorial in memory of Nest Rankin, daughter of the 6th Baron Dinefwr.  Her parents are remembered on the other side. These are in Llandyfeusant Church (currently home to a colony of bats).

It was a rather grey day, so the pictures are a bit gloomy, but you get the general layout.  Here's an excellent link with lots of other bits to check out in the side bar.

Views across the Towy Valley.

Dynefwr park with Newton House sadly closed for business at the moment.,  I used to volunteer there.

  1. Newton House looks quite French. What a great place to work.

    1. I loved it there - I'm quite a people person and love history, so enjoyed answering questions from those folk who were interested. Then there are those folk who you wonder WHY they have bothered to go there as they are clearly not interested one IOTA!

  2. Sad that Covid has closed all these places as I am sure they can all do with the income.
    Fingers crossed,

    1. Isn't it? Hoping they will open again soon, but pretty well all of their volunteers are in the vulnerable age group. Keep those fingers crossed please Pat.

    1. Doesn't it just? It fits into the landscape well in the rain.

    1. Really not sure about the lovely people from yesterday - their position was not yet on the market, but agent had then down as ready to proceed . . . Elizabeth Chadwick is a brilliant writer.

  6. That is an amazing and unusual looking house for the UK.
So with several people possibly interested in your house, if the agent mentions this to the other agent and the other possible buyers know, then there will be a bit of competion going on. You know the rest.

    1. A rich man's fancy . . .

A bit of competition wouldn't go amiss selling here, but it only takes one to buy it!

    1. Sometimes you can just walk right in (Manorbier is a good castle for that imagining). I imagine it would have been pretty smelly though, not a great deal of washing going on, especially amongst the lower orders!

  8. We love the design on that carved memorial to Nest Rankin. Celtic influence?

    1. It is very Celtic. There are a few ancient crosses in Wales rather like this one.
