Progress

Well, there has been much progress here.  Yesterday the heating engineers came and installed our new Worcester Bosch boiler.  That's a big bill we weren't anticipating to have to consider just yet but the old boiler was old and inefficient and a bit flakey and could go at any time.  Now we are sorted for the rest of our years here and it is a more eco-friendly boiler.

The tiler has been here and plastered the back (outside) wall behind where the loo will be, and done all the tiling. It looks fabulous.  He'll be back tomorrow to do the grouting, and also skim plaster the wall behind our bed.  Today, in our bedroom, Tam and I have to set to and try and remove the hideous painting surrounds made from dado rail, off the wall without causing too much damage.  I fear there will be some big holes though!  By the end of the week we should have our new bathroom up and running and have the house to ourselves again.  We are also replacing the ancient corner sink in the guest bedroom with a narrow modern one.  Keith was very sniffy as he thinks the sink is fine.  He is in a minority of one though!

I am a lot more comfortable since seeing the Chiro.  It was money well spent.  I need to pop into Llandod for some groceries this afternoon as it was a whistle-stop tour of Lidl on Monday, for essentials.  Tescopolis today for cat food and Earl Grey teabags etc.

Enjoy your day.

  1. It would be even better if the plumber was here, but we appear to have a "bye day" with him again. He'd best be here tomorrow as we need the sink fitted so we can get the tiler to finish off above it.

  2. It always feel good to chalk off chores from the list, isn't it. Glad you got some biggies marked off. ~Andrea xoxo

    1. These things are costing more than we expected (I think Covid has pushed the price of everything up and of course, there is along lead time for work to be done. We waited 3 months for this plumber and have had the bathroom suite in the stables since early June, when we got let down by another plumber.)

  3. Very good to hear that the chiro work helped you get more comfortable.

Always good to tick things off the reno list. Had three and half months of folks traipsing through my house doing reno work from late May to August. The good news is that they were all very pleasant fellows and they did excellent work. Hope all is sorted for you by next week.

    1. Thank you Mary, I hope it's all sorted too. There's still the kitchen to do, and two new carpets, and a couple of carpets to be cleaned. Since I lived in a building site on and off for 16 years in our old house, I should be used to all this!

Glad your workmen were good ones. Now we have a list of dependable tradesmen.

    1. It's getting to the end now, which I'm glad about. We will indeed be toasty this winter. This is a much smaller house than our old home. That will suit our pockets much better.

    1. We had one in the old house, only it was Hotel sized! The last photo was taken on a walk across the fields up to where a neighbour has a couple of horses.

  6. It does seem that when you start on a 'mission' to get something updated or modernised, there is always a surprise 'biggie' that adds to the bill! However, as you say - it will last for ages and be one less thing to have to worry about :)

    1. You're not kidding kj. In our last house a 5 minute job normally took a week. When hanging a picture in the hallway, we found out that the plaster was neat cement!!

  7. Wow, you have gotten great progress there. Hopefully there are not too many holes in the wall.

    God bless.

    1. Just one really - done the first time we tried to lever one off. Boy, it was a job and a half though! Plus moving all the furniture backwards and forwards!
