I have made the most of it. Some sitting outside in the sun with a good book, listening to the birds and feeling very relaxed. Then I did some pottering around in the yard - tidying up weed-filled planters and replanting them with Dahlias, Freesias, Nasturtiums etc. All with labels or I will forget what I planted. It was 15 deg. today and will be 19 tomorrow, then some rain in the offing.
This is a "before" photo from an area behind the greenhouse which was ignored last year. Now I will clear it back to scrubbed cobbles again. I made good progress on it yesterday.A neighbour dropped me down at the garage and I picked up the car (it's the clutch, and they can't do it until 31st March). I managed to limp home with it via a swift cat-food shop at Co-op, though I had put an order in for an Asda delivery tomorrow as I can't get my grocery shop done in Llandod.
Below: Up the hill a bit, a glimpse of the lovely Caer Beris hotel (and ancient castle site). There is a big holiday cabins site there too.
Then I went for a walk - not that far, about a mile and a half, but I stopped half way on a sun-warmed log and looked across at the hills, and listened to birds again (Jays and Woodpeckers being noisy). When I came home I started bread dough for a fresh oven-baked loaf (that's cooking now).
I sat in the living room and read more of my book and suddenly felt really tired. I laid on the sofa and was out like alight for 40 mins. All that fresh air I think.
It's so beautiful where you are, and so early to be planting. Such joy, to sit in the sun and listen to the birdsong, read a good book. I'm so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteToday is chillier here but beautiful. Ithought about getting the deck chairs set out, but even as I considered, the marine forecast came on, w rain and gale winds until Saturday. So no.
Also glad you got a lift to the car garage, my previous comment: [bossy me] "you need a new car" stands. My dad's motto, Do what you need to do first, then do what you want to do"---a tad boring and Puritanical, but he'd advise safe transportation ahead of fun travels, sorry.
I have to lave some of my savings for emergencies (work on house, possibility of having to go on mains water supply or private medical care etc). Keith and I always bought a newish car, low mileage etc, but you get hammered on tax when you buy from new (20% VAT added to price of car) so that never made sense to us. Keith kept the car regularly serviced etc, but went with the devil you know principle and we would keep the car going until it was clearly not financially viable to do so. The repairs I am having done are running repairs, bearing in mind the car is on a 2011 plate. Things wear out.
DeleteBeautifully sunny here today and I've been gardening. About to go for a stroll now.
Getting an appointment at a garage to get work done, is as difficult as getting an appointment at the dentist. Your walk back home is much prettier than mine. You need Nathan the gardener to tidy your patch for you. Have you seen him on facebook? He is in Australia and and publishes his videos on crazy fast speed.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem that way. How I miss our local bod who did car work privately evenings and weekends because he enjoyed it and didn't charge the earth either.
DeleteI have a gardener but he just does the lawns for me and any heavy jobs. I think I've seen the bloke you mentioned - working all speeded up!
Other than sparrows, the mourning doves and the occasional woodpecker we haven't gotten many birds as of yet. Lovely spring pictures.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I can't wait for our Swallows and House Martins to arrive,. They are on their way -saw some in Jerash.
DeleteSand martins and House martins have arrived in Devon; they'll be with you very soon :)
DeleteYou live in a lovely area. I can see why you take country walks. I've enjoyed your posts on your Jordan trip. That was such a wonderful holiday for you.
ReplyDeleteYes it is beautiful around here and the walks are lovely (though the hills can be killers!) Glad you have enjoyed the Jordan posts. It was the holiday of a lifetime.
DeleteLovely weather earlier in the week turned into a horrid bluster of howling all night wind to bring in the equinox--today is grey and grim with temps predicted to go well below freezing tonight. Not unexpected, but it is disheartening to see emerging plants blighted by the cold.
ReplyDeleteIt's colder and a little windy here today, so inside jobs are being done. Sorry you are still having below freezing temps at night, and losing blooms because of it.
