Lovely afternoon in the Elan Valley

I don't know what Blogger is doing - it has changed the format for putting up a fresh photo and instead of having a lovely big header photo, I now have a minisicule one!   I will have to see if I can change it, but all attempts so far have failed.

Our son Danny is here this weekend, and so this afternoon we went over to the Elan Valley again, and this time had a wander round the village.  Danny is very athletic and was soon leaping from boulder to boulder across the river like a Mountain Goat! Then he leapt with equal alacrity up the waterfall when we parked by that.  It was LOVELY there and I just wish we could have gone for a decent walk - though his idea of a decent walk is 10 times as long as mine and involves mountains!

The mountainous wall of the dam edge.

The old bridge across to the village, which is no longer in use.

Dan in the river (boulder out of site).

This was as brave as I got, out on the weir.

The waterfall reflected a drier and hotter June.

This was a special "brighter colours" filter on my camera.

Danny in the distance.

Water levels are getting lower in the reservoir.  When Tam and I walked around here in March, it was up to the treeline.  Back soon with photos from my volunteering debut on Friday . . .

  1. It's a spectacular part of the world that you live in and easy to see why you love it. Blog header? Good luck with that - I stopped changing mine after the last debacle I had with it. If i could get it to enlarge it was weirdly distorted, so got it half acceptable and gave up.🤪😾

    1. WHY do blogger have to change things which work perfectly well? I used to love changing to a new "special" header, and I was always sad to replace the last good one. Perhaps they will change things back.

  2. I think you and I both are mourning the passing of our youthful mobility! I love all the beautiful landscapes you've shared, but for now enjoy them only from the comfort of an arm chair in the fading hopes that one day I'll be able to walk them again. So gorgeously mossy, cooling, and calm.

    1. Well, I managed 20,000 steps today (Malvern Fleamarket outing) and still plan to climb a few hills. Use it or lose it, though with my asthma hills are always a challenge. I'm happy to sit and look at views now as well.

  3. The Elan Valley is so under-rated. In many ways it os good that way, but it deserves more visitors and could take the pressure off other areas. The walk at the Claerwen dam is one of my favourites

    1. I agree with you. Who needs to march up Pen-y-Fan with 100s of others when you can get away from the visitors so easily walking the Elan valley reservoirs? Not been up to Claerwen yet - but will do as soon as the pollen season is over. I am still trying to be careful but so far so good on stronger antihistamines.

    1. We had a lovely time. Poor lad got dragged around Malvern on Sunday though, possibly the most boring 5 hours of his life as there was so much dire house clearance stuff!

  5. Good for you getting out on these lovely walks. Amazing how far the water line has fallen in June when you consider how wet it was in May. Though maybe you didn't get as much as other parts of the country.

    1. June I normally have to stay indoors and avoid the pollen, so I didn't like to push my luck, but my change of meds has helped no end this year. (Stronger antihistamine). Hoping Ican get back to regular walks again in a week or so.

You would think May would have topped it up nicely as it rained most days - obviously not heavily enough though.

    1. Time to go again then RR. OK, it's more than half an hour from your spot in Herefs, but gosh, is it worth the drive! We did have a lovely weekend with Danny, but bored him rigid going round Malvern as nothing of great interest at Malvern - lots of rusty this and that and nothing I wanted to buy for me or for stock.
