Back to square one

Photo from a couple of years ago, on a Bluebell Walk just outside of Crickhowell.

. . . with the UTI, which after two days without antibiotics, has returned.  I have taken a sample down to the surgery, reported symptoms have returned and requested more antibiotics.  Obviously a week was not long enough.  I am now waiting for a phone call. Update: tested in house and it has white blood cells in it so has been sent off to the lab to be cultured and then perhaps I will get anti-biotics that work.

In case I feel worse, I've done the grocery shopping for the week, and this also covers in case it snows -as snow is forecast. That would be very early for snow in Wales.  I've also done the recycling and put that at the end of the lane.  I got a few Christmas things when shopping and a pair of soft fleecy trousers which were in the pyjama section, as I want something warm and loose to wear at the moment in place of stretchy jeans.

Another Christmas present has arrived to give to one of my family, and a present for ME - The Mystery of Mercia by Hugh Williams, which looks really interesting.  I will be reading the chapter Twilight of the Cunning Folk first.

I put the side borders on Gabby's quilt top yesterday.  Not an ideal colour combination - I chose it before I received the jelly roll of fabrics - but it is very much Gabby's colourway.

I am now going to rest up and listen to The Valley of Horses on Audible.

  1. Oh No to the return of the UTI - how very very annoying. Hope another batch of antibiotics sorts it ASAP.
The snow isn't forecast this far south and east - would be a shock if we got any, hope it's not too bad for you

    1. It is, I have had a nap (awake half the night again), read a bit of my new book, and have to gird my loins to drive to bloomin' Hereford tomorrow for my CT scan. Never mind, I shall go to Doughty's at some point (patchwork shop) to cheer myself up. Before probably.

  2. Oh gosh, poor you. This last couple of years my Mum has always needed two rounds of antibiotics for them to work properly, and once she needed three. I hope a second round works for you. It was sensible to get some shopping while you were out and about, now I hope you can rest up, but is there someone that would be able to pick up the prescription for you?

  3. I had three in a row after Pirate died and then another after a couple of weeks...when I had the seven day to clear an upper chest infection at the same time that worked well...the three day ones don't seem to hit it properly

  4. I've had 3 lots already - one lot of 3 days (useless), then 5 days (no good either), then 7 - better, but back when they stopped.

No prescription until test results back in a couple of days. I will be ok to get it - surgery's just over a mile down the road.

  5. So sorry to hear your UTI is back. I don't mean to worry you but I have been battling one since late June with repeated courses of antibiotics with short periods of feeling normal between flare ups . I am now under the care of the local hospital and on a 6 month course of low strength antibiotics to make sure the nastys are completely killed and don't keep bouncing back. I do hope and pray you don't get caught up in a similar situations and would suggest that if it keeps returning you ask to be referred as a matter of urgency to the local urology department sooner rather than later as the yo-yo if treatment and infection over a long period of time is very debilitating. I completely lost all my confidence to go out anywhere where I might not be unable to get to a toilet very quickly which at the start of my longed for retirement was quite a blow. I am looking forward to returning to normal life once I feel confident that the antibiotics are doing their job.
Sending love and positive vibes Jane

    1. Hi Jane - you have my sympathies. Tam used to get this and ended up paying to go privately to a top consultant and was told that there was a film in her bladder behind which the bacteria lurked and she had to be on antibiotics for 6 mths but that did sort it out. I hope that the antibiotics do their job properly so you can start enjoying your retirement. I am hoping this is a one off as I've not had cystitis or anything for years.

  6. So sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, some do need very specific antibiotics not the broad spectrum ones they tend to dish out. At least you've got the presence of mind to prepare just in cases.

    1. I'm glad I was organized as I realized - once I had woken up for yet another wee, and stayed awake, that the handyman is coming this morning at 8.30 so I would have been blocked in from taking the recycyling up the track. Tam reports there is snow on her road through the Cambrian mountains to me today, but temps should have melted it by the time she is driving here.

  7. Oh dear BB, not what anyone wants. S has been waiting for an appointment with urology since March. He’s had a scan which suggests he needs a cyst draining, but as it’s not urgent he’s on a waiting list but the constant low level pain and discomfort gets him down. We went to the library after his GP appt today - he has at long last agreed to try antidepressants for a month - and I encouraged him choose three books and he’s sitting reading now which is positive. It’s hard work as I know you know. But my reasons to be cheerful today include yoga this morning, a sympathetic GP and a visit to the library where I also chose three books including a new hardback copy of Whale Fall by Elizabeth O’Connor which I’ve started reading. Look it up when you have a moment, I think you would like it. Meanwhile I persevere with my Fair Isle knitting which grows slowly. I think knitting an all over 2-ply Shetland fair isle jumper is the equivalent of paper piecing a one inch hexagon quilt for a king size bed - very slow! Will I finish it by bluebell time I wonder? 1. Nope, could have done without it that's for sure. That's a long time to wait for a Urology appt. especially when you have constant low level pain and discomfort. I am glad that the GP appt went well and I hope that the antidepressants help him. Glad he enjoyed the library visit too. I've just looked up Whale Fall and will see if they've got it in the Library here (or order it in).

I once knitted some Fair Isle gloves for my cousin when I was 12 or 13. Lord knows how as I couldn't do them now!! It must have been a very simple pattern is all I can think, and perhaps fingerless gloves at that!

  8. Oh, no. I hope that you get something a bit more targeted, once the results are back.

    1. Although Tam did say she wouldn't be surprised if the culture came back negative, as she's had that before herself.

  9. Sorry the UTI didn't fully resolve itself with the last round of antibiotics. I hope the doctor gets it figured out and you get effective antibiotics. Also hoping the snow holds off there.

  10. I'm sorry to hear about the UTI, hope you get the meds you need.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gabby's quilt, even if in top stage.

  11. So sorry that the infection has returned. I do hope they give you antibiotics for longer than a week. Those pants sound very interesting.

    God bless.

  12. Oh, I feel for you! Repeated UTI's are just The Pits, aren't they. I do hope you are given something effective very soon.
