Builth Antiques Fair today

I thought I would post this whilst it is still relevant, and then get back to the Museum photos tomorrow.  Anyway, we were up early to have a fossick around the car boot sale in town, and then headed for Builth, for the 2nd day of the Antiques Fair & Fleamarket there.  For a while, it was like a ghost town . . .

This dealer was laughing and saying, "But I didn't go to bed wearing this!"

Isn't he fun?  I imagine he was used to advertise shaving brushes or something.

One of 3 lovely stained glass church windows on offer on this stall.

Another corner of the same stall, showing an odd juxtaposition of cultures!

Three old screens, going cheap  (£15 I think).

The lady whose stall this was made all these herself, and was working away on a tapestry when I began chatting to her.

Caryatids on a dealer friend's stall.  These would have originally been in a church.

I have seen the kits for these two embroideries somewhere.  Aren't they lovely?

Another embroidery - I think this one was about £38.

The Treen Man from North Devon was there again (we bought a very unusual costrel from him last year).  I loved this horn piece on the left - just like a hedgehog on a stick!! The two Stag moulds to the right were beautiful too.

Does what it says on the label!  Cute or what?

Finally a general view of an Interior Decor stall.  All in the best possible taste . . .

Away for now as out on my feet here - I didn't sleep well (3 nights in a row now), and woke at 4.20 a.m. and that was it for the night . . .  Never mind, we had a lovely day out - a busman's holiday really - but very enjoyable.

  1. Some lovely things there. My favourite of all is the sampler type cushion.
I really must do a x stitch sampler one day - been saying that for years

  2. There were some nice things. I have a soft spot for framed samplers but the best ones (not faded or anything) aren't cheap.) That cushion looked lovely.

  4. If I visited this market I would not want to leave. Oh these treasures. The stained glass church window makes me wonder about its story and the story of the church. I hope the church is still there!

    1. Haven't a clue about the church, but sometimes when they are "decommissioned" they go onto lead other lives as community centres or even shops and the auction we go to in Gloucestershire takes place in one! There was lots to see there. You would LOVE Malvern too. A tiring day though - 16,000 steps yesterday.

  5. Must have been very exhausting, but those cushions are beautiful. What a wealth of goodies you see on these excursions.

  6. All sorts of tempting things thelma. On some stalls there is just a pile of JUNK - others have really lovely things (to my eyes anyway). I know there are lovely antiques Fairs at Harrogate and York so perhaps you could have a day out at one sometime?

  8. RR - it's like all the big fairs, you never know what will turn up, especially in the Fleamarket section.
